University's student forum shut

AN online forum for University College Bahrain (UCB) (http://www.ucb.edu.bh) students has been taken offline by its administrators, who fear a backlash from the university.

The website, called UCBForums (http://www.ucbstudents.com/forum), was being used by students to post student complaints and comments about the university, its administration and faculty.

A forum member told the GDN that the students decided that the forum should be shut down because they had heard that it had angered certain members of the administration (http://www.ucb.edu.bh/executives.html).

"We have many issues with the university. We are upset about many things, which we are powerless to change," he said.

"The forum is being shut down because we are afraid that keeping it may cause us more problems."

The student council also recently resigned, reportedly because the members say that the university's administration was interfering in its activities and putting obstacles in its path.

"The students are very upset. We don't feel that the university respects us."
