al-Salam 3lakum, :) I really enjoyed viewing this forum for the past couple of days and I must say its very impressive meshallah 3leekum great job :bigok: allah ya36eekum il3afya .
This is my first ever thread in this forum so please bare with me.
I recently posted this at another forum but no one seemed to know whether or not it was available in Kuwait yet alone in the Gulf. So I was wondering if anyone here knows any chrome platters in Kuwait or the Gulf? Plus if anyone in Kuwait or il`7aleej does any powder coating?

Thanks for the warm welcome :)
Ok chrome platter r in the gulf but the question was where? And to be honest I wanted to know if they were any good? I remember a long time ago back in Kuwait there was this guy that chrome platted some parts for my friend but the finish wasn’t that good. Unfortunately I don’t remember the guy and can’t get in touch with the friend to ask him about the location of the chrome platter.
About sending parts to be powder coated u mean send them over seas and then wait for them to powder coat them and send them back? cus I know that they do that but I don’t want that I d prefer something closer either way thanks for the suggestion.

the boys here will surely help you out with exact locations... thats not a problem... but chrome is an option id stay away from given our humidity and temperatures (thats just my opinion though).

You know I never thought of the weather issue but do u think it will affect it that much? I m assuming it should last for a long time as long as one keeps it maintained by polishing it and taking care of it from time to time it should last for at least 3 years (in my opinion). I thought that chrome platting was a type of protecter?

When you chrome plate anything you end up with two layers of metal, 1 the chrome and 2 the rim for example. These two alloys each have different TEI's (Thermal Expansion Index). When you have two metals expanding and contracting at different rates, moisture (which we have plenty of) gets in between them and causes corrosion and pitted stains on the chrome plating. So basicly no matter how much u take care of the rims, this is unavoidable. Taking care of them will delay this ofcourse.
Another problem is one faced by one of my friends here. After chrome plating, his tires started leaking air, slowly but surely. I don't know the reason behind it, but he had to replace all four tires (it could have been the chrome peeling round the outter rim).
Powder coating is a better option IMO, you still have the chipping problems evertime you look at it, but that you can touch up with paint rather than having to redo the entire rim once more.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the great info HzMajesty and everyone else I really appreciate it but The principal reasons for coating a metal are:
-To provide corrosion protection of the substrate
- To enhance product appearance (providing a specified color or texture)
- To increase wear resistance and or reduce friction of the surface.
Now Chrome platting is an electroplating process (also known as electrochemical plating). Copper is often plated on steel as a base beneath nickel and or chrome plate. Chrome platting is basically used for its decorative appearance and it also produces on of the hardest of all electroplated coatings so it is widely used for parts requiring wear resistance (e.g. hydraulic pistons and cylinders, piston rings aircraft engine components and thread guides in textile machinery)*
Plus I don’t think the chrome platting was the cause for u r friend’s rims because it wouldn’t make sense for the chrome to go through the metal and cause a hole that would allow air to go through it. There must have been something else that was the reason.

I forgot to mention what u said is right but it only occurs when the chromed surface is chipped allowing moister to enter between the chrome and the metal. Otherwise the chrome should last and protect the surface from rust as long as there are no chips or cracks in the chrome.

To be honest nothing at the moment I just wanted to know if its avialable in the gulf for my future plans. Actually I am more interested in knowing if there are any powder coating places than I am about chrome platting.
