So the wait comes to an end... good stuff...

I jus have a question regarding the run... dont u dyno the higher gear instead of the low ones? like 4th or 5th?

yes, but that was just a test as mentioned by TAG :)

You should put it in a gear as close as possible to 1:1 ratio. in a Camaro with a Manual traz you get it in 3rd gear, but in an Manual traz Camaro you get it in 4th gear!

First of all I d like to say mabrook 3la the opening great job allah yawafijkom. :up2:
Would u mind explaining a bit better pls cus I am really confused cus what u said makes no sense to me. When u say 1:1 ratio I m guessing u r talking about the rotaion of the flywheel to the rotation of the transmission which is usually at the highest gear of the trans. But the bit that is confusing me is when u say "a Camaro with a Manual traz you get it in 3rd gear, but in an Manual traz Camaro you get it in 4th gear" what is the differance between a camaro wih a manual trans and a manual trans camaro?????

He meant an Automatic camaro=1:1 @ 3rd gear

Manual=1:1 @4th gear...

1:1= 1 Rotation of the Engine= 1 Rotation of the Wheels...(don't forget theres a final drive in the rear diff that has to be accounted for as well)

theres no stepping up or down..

when they did the dyno run in 2nd gear on his camaro his engine was rotating once.. and the wheels maybe 1.5 times...

think of it like ur mountain bike... in low gears u turn ur feet maybe 10 times and wheel turns once... put it in 21st gear and then u turn ur feet once and the wheel turns 2x etc

Ic but I thought technically it isnt 1:1= 1 Rotation of the Engine= 1 Rotation of the Wheels cus if it was the power output at the flywheel would equal the power out put at the wheel which is rarely the case due to approx 25% loss due to the transfer of power from the engine through the trans and through drive shaft then through the diff and finally to the wheels. Am I wrong to assume this??

Ottoman
June 13th, 2005, 08:56 AM
it IS 1:1 rotation

Frictional losses are a different issue.. Dyno measures power put to the wheels/ground... if u wanna measure engine output, u can use an engine dyno that connects directly to the flywheel

rule of thumb is:
10% for FF/MR
15% for FR
25% for 4WD

(this is with manual transmissions, add 5-7% more if it's an auto)

Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it and great piece of info about the rotation ratio u really have the right idea behind the concept :up2: but I know that this particular dyno is measuring the power out put at the wheels. One more question how accurate is this dyno??

Meshallah I am not disputing that its not a great dyno I was just curious. I thought that these thing came with some source of errors that would be specified by the manufacture.

Ofcourse they come with marginal errors. How much? I dont know! I'll check on the net and post it if i get any info on that!

Accuracy depends upon the Dyno Operator..

inorder to make Dyno's "equal" in defferent parts of the world..

U need to enter what's called the SAE Correction values

these compensate for Altitude Temperature and Humidity factors to bring them all to "equal level"

So someone with a DynoJet in Japan (where it's humid) will be able to compare results with someone in BC (high altitude) to someone in Iowa (flat and dry)

as for comparing between Mustang Dyno's and Dynojets... they say Dynojet shows higher numbers

Most ppl opt for Dynojet.. not cuz it's the best.. but cuz it's the most popular and Affordable...(i'm not saying it's bad)

if u have the best most expensive dyno in the world.. and everyone else has dynojet... comparing ur numbers is diffiicult...

I'ts like Windows... it's not the best operating system.. but it's the most popular. and easiest to use for most ppl.. so it stays around :)
