Guys,
What good is installing a router compared to using a regular ADSL modem (im talking about a regular one line router, using a cable not wireless), is it worth it to get one and how useful would it be?
2nd, if i wanted to use a wifi system when i already have regular speednet, is the only thing i need a wireless router directly into the phone line (ie the modem is installed in the router)? What are the downsides of this (ie range etc or does it differ by brand)
thx guys

if you get a router you will be connected on line 24 hours and you can use more than 1 pc at time , not like ADSL modem , and your router will have 4 ports .
and if you wanna get a wireless network at home .
get a wireless hub and plug it to the router , so you will have 4 ports available 24 hours with out disconnecting and wireless network available at the same time ..
if you wanna get these items or you have any question
visit my shop in ADLIYA ( 3D PC )
i will give you a good price . :up2:

Depends on how many PC's you're gonna be using at home..
If it's one.. Get an ADSL modem.. If it's more you can either get an ADSL modem and a HUB or an ADSL modem/router (which is the better choice)..
If you go for ADSL modem + HUB, you'll have to have one of the PCs act as the internet server and enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) but in that case, the server HAS to be on in order for other PC's on the LAN to be able to surf the net.. With the router, the device itself acts as the internet server and as long as its switched on and logged, all other PCs are connected to the internet..
If I were you I'd go for an ADSL router (wired).. I'm not a big fan of wireless connections..! Keep that for when wireless connections become better..! Unless you're planning to use the wireless connection for internet surfing only..
Ok, here's the thing.. It's true that wireless connections are slower than wired ones but if we're talking about internet surfing only, we're talking about 512kbps connections on this crappy island.. That by itself is WAAAAAAY lower than the LAN connection a wireless hub/router can offer.. So the only downside (speedwise) you MIGHT suffer from with a wireless device is if you're sharing and moving around large files on your LAN, but for internet surfing, you will not notice that much of a difference..

Dear Sir,
The router will allow you to connect more than one pc on a single ADSL line, and it will allow you to shut down your pc without disconnecting the connection to the other pc (it makes every pc get like an own connection).
for the WIFI as what I know, that you need a WIFI router to be installed on your adsl line (phone line you are using), the downsides are that it might play a bit if you have strong megnatic field around.
Thank you,
Faisal
