Raikkonen replies to Williams
The Finn takes first place in private testing today [11/01/04 - 19:47]

A new lap record for Kimi

he fifth day of testing at the Jerez Circuit in Spain ended with a new lap record of 1'16"125 for Kimi Raikkonen, at the wheel of the new McLaren MP4-19 (the previous record: Pedro de la Rosa in 1'16"210).

Even if Raikkonen is not entirely comfortable in the small cockpit of the MP4-19, it doesn't seem to stop him from being competitive. However, the rear wing on the new McLaren doesn't comply with the 2004 regulation.

Takuma Sato's BAR suffered from engine problems this morning and the Japanese driver had to stop at the Angel Nieto corner. Ryan Briscoe went off the track at the end of the straight. The Toyota driver was not injured but his car was slightly damaged after hitting a tyre barrier.

Today is the last day of testing for McLaren at the Jerez Circuit while BAR, Williams and Toyota will continue their programme on the Spanish track until Tuesday.
