The new R24 has taken to the track for the first time in Barcelona today.

Team driver Jarno Trulli was the first to take the team’s 2004 contender round the Spanish circuit while team-mate Fernando Alonso is expected to take over duties later in the week.

The team have opted for a conventional front end of the car sporting a traditional raised nose.

But eyes were on the rear of the car which features an unusual engine cover with a number of aero ‘flick-ups’ to aid downforce on the side.

The team will officially launch the R24 in Sicily on 29th January.
