View Full Version : Batelco - Slow Internet Provider

OK i'm going to say this straight forward.
Do you think that Batelco is fair with their costumers providing a slow speed connection with a VERY high price?. I mean this should be discussed atleast. Many of the gulf countries have internet connection and it's really for a cheap price.
In the USA you pay for 512kps 12.5 dollar PER YEAR. so you still think Batelco is sadisfying our needs from the price side? I know it's the only provider here in Bahrain, but isn't that means it SHOULD reduce the price atleast? OK, I understand there are many packages like Student package and IDSL, but most of them have a download limit and if you exceed those limits you'll be very sprised by the end of the month. So they're driving us to choose the EXPENSIVE package which is 40 dinnars every month. don't get me wrong, i'm not against anyone, but i think this matter must be discused in some ways. Even the internet is not that fast, and sometimes it get very slow. I think they should low the prices and provide more faster packages than they have. :down2:
So what do think? Do you think its fair?
and why you think that?
please share your ideas

its been discussed over and over before my man...
batelco is ripping the public off... since theres no competition, theyre free to f@$% you up... 512 connections dont reflect the true speed of 512, and it costs more :duh:
but what can you do... im stuck paying 40 a month for something that isnt really that fast... but its the only option... man i should work for batelco... no wonder theyre employees are well paid

saw an article on it in the before awhile back..
wonder if complaining to the TRA would make a diff?

Man ur preachin to the masses. ive been hearing this for years. first i thought, yeah there a good company theyll decrese the price. but damn, after so many years not a cent difference in price. and they complain" we only have 50000 customers"
12.5$? u can get cable, 1mbit and HDTV for 50$ a month.
and in europe now adsl2 is coming, 8mbit for 20euros!!!
Bahrain is so small that u can wimax the whole country. thast what the new isps are planning cos itll be too muhc to pay batelco for royalties for use od their cable lines.
also the mcdonalds idea is bull. charging? that wont change anything. make it free and more ppl will come to eat to use internet.
Batelco is gonna lose customers like hell juts like thy lost 200000 to vdafone cos theyre so bloody overconfident

ive been hearing the "batelco will reduce inet rates" thing for ages
ive also been hearing about a new company coming...
but so far, nothing ! theres orbit, who charge BD38 per month, but installation fees are like 250 or something...
the other companies here and there are only focused on corporate customers right now...
so i guess ill stick to paying my 40 a month... screw em...

the only lower rates batelco is thinking of providing and which got blocked by the TRA i beleive is their supposedly new offering of 64kbps line for 10BD a month.
Batelco is a ripoff, in any other market they would'nt survive an hour let alone a day.
we pay 40dinars a month for a 256 line which is so slow sometimes that its worse than dailup!! and thats while connecting to their shitty site too!!
hahaha they are a joke wallah, and i dont have to go to america and compare prices to prove they are a joke, just look at etisalat in the UAE its still a monopoly but they provide a 2mbps lines for only 35BD!
things will never improve with batelco and i mean NEVER!

once the new isps come i dont care if batelco cut prices, i dont like their half-cocked way of dealing. they recently did some repiar work in the afternoon in riffa. midday?? peak hours they want to repair cos the wankers who work their dont wanna work too late.
actually speaking the TRA is screwing us over. their not letting batelco reduce till the new ones comeand thats God knows when so that they have a chance to get some consumer base . till then we have to stay with these stupid rates!
all im praying for is a good 1mbit connection in the 25-40 price range so that i can play BF2 and not worry about no goddamn 5 sec lag

it would be great if in the future, after a meet, the pics could be instantly downloaded to a guys laptop from the camera and upload it there then only. and if people had faster connections thruout we could have live feeds so members who cant make it dont miss out

no way, thats what some ppl do with such a fast connection. i mean how much can u do with a good 1mbit connection? browse, download <ahem> movies and games and the rest of the bandwidth? my cousins in th states dont call each other they use videolink! its great cos theyre paying a nominla fee and getting free talk time

 pu-ching must be. but why not, fine the video feed is a lil eccentric. but by the time these isps will come theyl have better things to offer. i mean most of us are used to 256 k connections and thee are things i have seen that mkaes me smack th guy who chose the price. Recently a guy i know in UK downlaoded a whole movie from newsgroups in 2min flat. 700mb! and he did so with a 2mbit line. so video feed is not that bandwidth hogging. it would be easy to do with 1mbit

None of you guys have it worked out as good as me. My neighbours have a wireless network. And my lappy picked up the single one day lol. Since september, i have been using their line, for free i might add. The dont have a clue about it. And there is nothing to worry about, cuz there is another network other than it that i have access to. Allways excellent reception. Click on the link and the page opens b4 u can even blink.
You guys are getting ripped off bad. Its hard to get another landline provider. Think of how long it will take till you can wire-up bahrain all over again?
