just hours ago a tragic incident has happend near Shk Khalifa Bin Salman Bridge.

a your ship belongs to some tour agency has sunk, but not sure what time it started.

it's on Bahrain TV live, its a total trajic they have announced almost 49 Dead so far out of total of 140 on board of that ship.

H.H Shk Khalifa Bin Salman the prime minister, H.E SHk Rashid Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa the minster of interior, H.E Dr Nada Hafath and other officials are located now on spot of the accident trying to know what exactly happend there.

the information given that most of the tourist on board of that ship are forgien and some are Bahrainies, they have rescued almost 23 People out of that sunk ship and still they are still trying out to rescue who they can find.

the news just found out that the reason of that ship sinking is becasue it was over weighted, the ship has been booked by ( tour Island ) and the capacity of that ship should not be more than 100 poeple and the fact was that the company did not apply that rule and actully had more than 140 people on board which lead to it's trajic incident.

King Hamad Bin Salman Al Khalifa King of Bahrain and H.H shk Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa the prime Minister and H.H shk Salman Bin hamad Al Khalifa sent there deepest condolences to the families who lost their dearest in this trajic accident.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- At least 63 passengers were rescued -- and the bodies of 48 others recovered -- after a passenger ferry carrying about 135 people on a company outing capsized and sank Thursday night in a narrow channel off the Bahrain coast, officials said.

"We're still not really sure about the nationalities," said Tariq Hassan, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry. He added that an investigation will be conducted into the sinking, which occurred about 9:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. ET).

Officials are trying to determine what caused the ship to sink in clear weather less than a mile off the Bahraini coast, near the capital Manama.

Witnesses said the boat sank on its way back into port, according to the British Foreign Office.

Bahraini officials said there was no indication the boat was attacked. Without elaborating, they said only that the boat experienced a "technical" problem. (Watch rescue efforts in Bahrain -- 1:26)

Twelve of those rescued were injured and taken to a Bahraini hospital, according to the Interior Ministry.

Information Minister Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar said he estimates that the passengers included 25 Britons, 10 South Africans, 20 Filipinos, 10 Egyptians and 10 Bahrainis.

It was his understanding that the passengers worked for the same company and were on an evening dinner cruise scheduled to last a couple of hours, Ghaffar said. He added that the company was based in Bahrain.

"We hope we can find more survivors," Ghaffar said, but other officials expressed concern that the rescue would become more complicated once the sun set. (Watch how U.S. and Bahraini officials are scrambling to figure out what happened -- 2:50)

The U.S. Navy sent boats, a Coast Guard cutter, 16 divers and two helicopters to assist in the rescue, Navy officials said. The island kingdom houses the headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, which patrols the Persian Gulf.

Thursday's sinking comes fewer than two months after an Egyptian ferry -- the Al Salam Boccaccio 98 -- sank in rough Red Sea waters in early February. An estimated 1,000 passengers were feared dead.

CNN's Caroline Faraj and Barbara Starr contributed to this report.

Many die in Bahrain boat disaster

The incident happened less than a mile off the coast, officials say
At least 48 people have died after a crowded pleasure boat sank off the coast of Bahrain in the Gulf.
Some 63 people were rescued from the vessel, which was carrying up to 150 people including foreigners and Bahraini nationals.

The two-storey Arabic dhow capsized in calm seas not far from the shoreline during an evening dinner cruise.

Britons, South Africans, Egyptians and Filipinos were on board the boat, which eyewitnesses said appeared overcrowded.

Bahrain's coastguard service launched an immediate rescue operation, reaching the scene within minutes.

American divers and small naval craft from the US 5th Fleet based nearby also joined the rescue efforts.

'No distress signal'

The boat capsized at about 2145 local time (1845 GMT), near one of the bridges linking the capital Manama with al-Muharraq island, Bahrain's coastguard chief Yussef al-Ghatim told AFP news agency.

We saw [the ship] leaning on its side quickly then it capsized and its lights turned off

Abd Ali Muhammad Hassan, eyewitness

The incident happened less than a mile off the coast, Bahraini and US officials said.

Confirming the toll of dead and injured at a news conference in Manama, Mr al-Ghatim said fewer people than expected had boarded the boat.

"The organiser of the trip said 150 people were invited but some 14 to 20 may have gotten off before it sailed," he said.

However, correspondents and eyewitnesses reported that the boat appeared heavily overcrowded before it set off into the harbour.

The harbour waters are generally shallow but with some deep channels.

'Tourists saved'

"We were in a ship next to the ship which capsized," eyewitness Abd Ali Muhammad Hassan told the BBC Arabic service.

"We saw it leaning on its side quickly then it capsized and its lights turned off.

"We moved backward towards them and managed to save seven of the crew... The people we saved were foreign tourists, not Bahrainis," Mr Hassan said.

The cause of the incident was not immediately known, but Bahraini officials quickly ruled out a terrorist attack.

so thw owner company of the ferry is Dana company and tour Island resnted the ship with proper forms from Dana company that clearly shows the rules and regulations of the ship and how things goes, tour island did not follow those rules therefore this accident happend.

okay, thats whats on TV...guys if a ship has alimit of 100 people would a 30 or 40 more lead the ship too sink?

I dont know how the shipp looks like, but thinking of it that this ship can handle like 100 people on board then its not any ordinary ship it must be big right...

unless the people on board were not aware of how important to keep the balance on board of the ship. if a mejority of those people were on one side of the ship, and if so werent their any officials on board to keep things steady!

May God rest the souls of the deceased in peace. But one thing we should know here guys is that nobody on this island adheres to safety rules and regulations. Money money money is the name of the game.
The ministries involved do not impose strict legislations when it comes to safety matters. If a boat is designed for 100, then i guess there are only 100 life jackets on board, give or take 5. but nearly 140,i doubt there were as much.
My friend was on board and Alhamdillah he was safe. My heart goes out to the families of the innocent victims of these stupid money making baastards.
Let them go to Europe or the states and see how safety comes first. That boat was just a recipe for disaster. Now let their greed benefit them.
Wallah, i'm so angry about these stupid tour operators on this island cause all they think about is their pockets and not people's safety.
Time for the ministries involved to fackin WAKE UP.

If only the rules were as strict as aviation is, these things would rarely happen. Thats why there are rules and limits.
