Universally recognized as the leader in reliability and build quality, Toyota is taking a hit to that reputation due to a new model that is “plagued with problems.” The 2006 Avalon is causing a lot of owners grief (http://www.cars.com/go/news/Story.jsp?section=news&subject=recent&story=050506storyaAN&referer=lln&aff=national), according to columnist Mark Rechtin. “There have been significant throttle control and transmission hesitation issues,” says Avalon owner Alan Seider, 45, a computer consultant from Roswell, Ga. “I’ve isolated 15 different rattles in the body work.” Seider is far from alone, says Rechtin. “Internet chat rooms are littered with complaints from Toyota loyalists about the redesigned Avalon, which went on sale in February 2005.”

Well,if they stuck to the same design, it wouldnt have messed up.
Look at Mitsubishi. Why havent they changed the 4G63? cuz they know if they do,its the end of the evo. Why hasnt chevy stopped using the LS engines? cuz they are at the peak of performance.

They must have re-designed their gearboxes. Thats why they messed up.

Well the gear box is currently the unit in many cars, Avalon, GS, and the IS, and will be available on the Camry 3.5L V6... The ones that arrived to Bahrain seem fine, even when they were tuned up to reach the 290HP rather than the 270HP... But this could be a manufacturing problem in the US... Plus Toyota's are cars that u can choose blindfolded... They last, and the gearboxes are really heavy duty...
