Dear BloodBird. LS1 engine advantage to the LT4 is the aluminum block (much lighter), it has good valve angle too & a great rod ratio, so if you want to replace your engine to LS1 it will cost you around BD2500. As you said that the LT4 is stronger you dont need to buy full LT4 engine for your bird, summit racing offers a cool kit to convert you LT1 firebird engine to LT4 ( you didnt mentioned you firebird year model).
the kit is under part #: NAL-GMP3287*
the kit price is $2289.95 from summit racing
Note *:Modifecations to your vehicles computer engine manegment system is required.
LT4 conversion kit it brings the most output of your factory LT1 engine, the kit includes the heads, intake, Hot cam kit with 1.6 Bow Tie roller rockers & all necessary gaskits & hardware, the kit will give you proven 425+ HP.
this way you will save too much $$$$. All the best & good luck

The LT4 engine heads and blocks are aluminum and the LT4 engine is similar to the Corvette ZR1 LT5 engine which is more powerful then the Z06.The LT4 is also the engine of the limited edition Firehawk which is extremely powerful.

LT4 block is not aluminum, ZR1 engine is complettely deferent.
LT4 came on the grand sport vettes, some SS camaros & some firehawks ( im not sure ).
Like Thug Life said if your car is over 1998 you better convert it to LS1 ( is it the red trans am with the black 5 spock rims ) you need the engine & the transmission, full painless wiring, good fuel pump & exuast system.
I have the engine & transmission if you are interested go to parts for sale i have posted a thread there:bigok:

Well, I say go with LS1 or LS6 engine! All aluminum engine and lighter that the LT4. Also, the LS1 engine is NOT 325 HP stock! It is about 350hp-360hp bone stock!
I dynoed my SS stock with 3000 miles on and I got 310 rwhp! so add the 15% manual drive-train loss and you get about 360hp at the engine!
LS1-LS6 heads have an revolutionary design and flow #s. And that is why you see 400 rwhp to 500 rwhp LS1 with no power adder. Also, you have more parts for the LS1-LS6 engine out there.
salsa383 you are right, LT4 did come on the SS limited edition.
Guess why you don’t see too many LT4 on the track?
AND an LS1 is easy to work with too! :bigok:
Good luck.

What did the car came with from the factory?
If it’s an LT1 stick with the 1st or 2nd gen style block.
If it’s an LS1 go with a GEN III block LS1 or LS6.
If it came with a V6 then go with GEN 1 or 2 other wise if you wanna go the GEN III route you’ll need custom cross member and in both cases a custom engine mounts and a compatible PCM.
Correct me if im mistaken please.

It is a V6 3.8 series 2 so i went for a mechanic who changed a V6 to V8 he told me he can keep either LT4 or LS1 but he told me that the LT4 is much cheaper and he can make it really strong and it's gonna cost me less then a BD 1000 but the LS1 will cost me more then BD 2000 ,and in future i can install the LS1 engine any time so i said i want to keep the LT4 engine now and after i'll go for the LS6 if i find 1.
So guys what do u think.

LT4 in a 98 v6 firebird..
if you want my advice sell your car and get a V8 formula or trans am...
LT4 and LS6 engines are pretty rare to find used..
