Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp. said on Wednesday it has developed a robot leg that can jump like a human, which is a major evolution from current stiff-jointed models.
A spokeswoman for the company said the robot leg stands 3.3 feet (one meter) and has a joint on its toe that allows it to jump as high as four centimeters (1.6 inches) by bending and stretching its toe and another knee-like joint.
She said, "This is a basic technology that can be applied to a two-legged robot in future. It was a difficult step for robots. But it was made possible after making a number of prototypes."
She said the company is also developing on new prototypes that would allow robot to run faster and handle unpaved roads more smoothly. Jumping is just the beginning, she said.
Toyota, the world's number two automaker which is expected to surpass General Motors soon in terms of sales, has increasingly devoted to robot development.
The robotic humanoids welcomed visitors at Toyota's pavilion during the 2005 World Expo in Japan, jamming in a brass ensemble and performing hip-hop routines.
and then in 2020 it will be like this !

Do u think one day this will happen?
ultimately, EVERYONE will be out of jobs...
even the mexicans...
isn't that the real goal behind making robots "able-bodied"???
