Hi guys, does anyone know how i can make a VCD? Ive got Record Now Plus preinstalled on my system, but it doesnt have a VCD option. I want to burn a + or - 700MB movie file to a CD and make it playable on a DVD player. But may i remind you, i do not have a DVD writer.
Any helo would be much appreciated.

1. You dont need a dvd player to play a 700mb movie, unless its in avi, you need a divx player, other wise any cd player will do.
2. VCDs and CDs dont have + or - only dvds
3. Get yourself nero, it has vcd and all the other options, or go to my freeware page, there are many utilities that are free that do the same:

4. A CD writer is fine for CDs, and yes it will play on dvd players if its burnt properly

f won, the + and - i mentioned was cuz i meant the file could be more or less than 700MB, i didnt refer to the CD type. The file is a .avi file, and i want to burn it on a CD so i can play it on a DVD player than can play VCDs. However, a DivX player isnt in the picture, due to the absence of one.
I will download Nero later today and give it a go, and ill post back the results :)
Thanx bro. hey, can you find me a solution to my codec problem too?

If its in avi, you cant burn it as a vcd, unless its been converted as one... its the one where there are two folders called avseq something, not a single avi file, that wont work anywhere cept the pc and a divx player

then it is avi, smack urself over the ehad, cos no cd player in the world's gonna play it... u could convert it to dvd format using tmpgenc and then burn it as a proper dvd...

I dont have a DVD writer. That option would have cost me another 120BD on the original price of the laptop. Ive payed more than enough for it, and i couldnt afford that option. Although i am thinking of getting one, since mine is a detachable device.

I dont need an external. My optical drive is removable, and can be replaced with a battery, an additional hard drive, or another optical drive for upgrade. Its a direct remove and replace, without having to open one screw. So then i can have it on the laptop and use it and maybe sell the old one on e-bay

just use Nero
when you create a VCD, it will convert the avi to mpeg or whatever and it will play on the normal DVD players, or you can use S-VCD for better resolution
but it may not play on all DVD players
and dont worry about the avi file size

But when it converts it to MGEG, wont its size increase? The file itself is 700MB, and a standard CD has 703MB. The DVD player im going to use does play VCD.

after converting the size will decrease
just create a new VCD and when u want to burn the Cd it will automaticlly convert the file.
avi is an uncompressed file type
most of other video files like mpeg, mpg, etc, are compressed so thier size are much smaller
and u wont lose anything
just install nero

if the avi movie size that u want is more than 300MB then its very difficult to make a good quality VCD and it will exceed the 700MB CD Size Limit
VCD/s mostly fit a new project as ur own creation of a movie and not ready made converted movies ..
