could someone tell me how an engine swap works?
is it as plain as shoving an engine under the hood...?
arent there other factors to think about too ?..like transmission and i dunno what else...
any input would be welcome
thanks

generally an engine swap is actually a drivetrain swap..
most often... the swap is: Enginer+tranny+Ecu+wiring harness(or standalone)
depending on the chassis it's going in u'll need:
custom engine + tranny mounts
upgraded Cooling
Upgraded suspension (to handle the most often extra weight in the front)
Drive shaft or axles if it's FF
usually sticking the engine into the body is not hard.. Getting it to Run right, and handle well is...

is it possible to put in a 2jz engine(anything japanese) , assuming a new transmission has to be put in and everything...what kind of budget am i looking at if at all this is possible...

I meant 1k bd for buying the engine and trans+acc+ custom work to put it in the car and get it running... that doesn't include the cost of the donor car and stuff...

That is a very true point :z: (but would be a waste of a vete) maybe just drain the oil from it when its parked so the engine seizes
keep it american dude you can pick up good cheap american engines no need to add jap engine

Bro, a vette deserve nothing less than a V8. A muscle car isnt a muscle car if it doesnt have a gurgling V8 under the hood, and most preferably, N/A. Besides, think of all the bottem end torque and the fun you will be missing out on :)
I say, dump an LS1 into it :D

2jz in a vette dont do it man, sounds dumb. just get a supra if you want a 2jz

why is it no one cries a river when they put an american engine into a Jap car?
besides only vette's had shitty gas guzzling motors anyway...
putting a 2jz in would be cheaper and easier.. an LS1 would take even more work...

ottoman, I beg to deffer bro.
engine swap is an engine swap, headache, headache, and even more headache, a crap load of work and money no doubt.
if buy saying slapping in a 2JZ is cheaper, you mean do a job less than half assed then go ahead and slap the good ol'e SBC in it coz thats not only cheaper, its all over the place.
if you want to do a proper job with any other motor, you will need a motor, a tranny, ECU (be is a stand alone or an OEM), custom mounts (motor and tranny), Custom cooling system, Custom Fuel system, Custom Drive shaft, new wiring all over.
Now, if we were to swap in any FI motor (turbo or blower), an Intercooler, Intercooler pluming, oil lines, and full exhaust (in both cases).
Now, am I saying swapping any V8 in the vette is better, no it is up to him but makes more sense.
am I saying swapping a Japanese motor in it is wrong, No, but it takes alot more work, money and tuning.
Guys, engine swaps if not done in a proper manner can and well be Hazardous to you, your car, and other people, regardless of the frame you are using, regardless of the motor your swapping, it has to be done properly and will require many hours of work, and a hefty amount of cash.
none the less, I wish you get the car, and go a head with your project, Keep us posted and take a ton of pics.
Good luck.

seriously its not right. japanese motor in an american car, or the other way round. and like sarz said, it aint cheap doing a normal swap let alone a crazy one like this.
and if no money is no option, i'd say invest in building your vette motor and slap a couple of turbo's on it, and you will own the streets
