I have recently installed a TBE on my WRX and when i accelerate hard it cuts off between 4.5-6 RPMs and boggs for a second.

I installed
Bellmouth Downpipe: 3" Piping with 4" Bellmouth Outlet
Catless 4.50" Muffler
Up-Pipe: 2.25" Piping

sounds like fuel cut

do u have a boost gauge?

what does it read when u bog?

if u partial throttle does it still cut?

if it doesn't... it's probably fuel cut

at about 20psi it starts to cut ? i was told it might be from the manual boost controller ?!

u make 20psi sound like it's little

that's almost 1.5 BAR!

u didn't mention a boost controller in ur mod list..

if ur wastegate is inadequate u will suffer whats known as "boost creep" especially in cold weather

the pressure rises regardless of ur MBC setting...

turn the boost all the way down first.. and see what the pressure is and how it fluctuates.. and slowly go up.. if u hit fuel cut. back down until it stops..

i'll give it a shot and see what happens tonight. hope that i didn't hurt anything in the engine. i hear that the dealer here in bahrain is bad.

after your TBE install you are witnessing boost creep, which might be extreme since you have a mbc causing the fuel cut.

there is a mechanical fix, adjust wastegate by porting the opening, that will get rid of the creep.

or electronically the prefered way get the car tuned for your TBE, This not only raises boost SAFELY but it changes your ignition timing and fuel curves to fully take advantage of it. and remove that mbc it can seriously damage the car.

by the way what fuel you using? cause with poor fuel 20 psi is pushing the threshold of your stock block. only with 98+ RON fuel can you push more

May i add that he is using a DIY boost controller :)

I hope he changes it to something more reliable.

you are in Bahrain? using mumtaz petrol? and running 20psi? thats a ticking time bomb.

I dont know anywhere in bahrain that can do it. its tough cause not many subaru's in bahrain.

I've got a solution to your problem
Dont run more than 20 psi on your car.
bahrain petrol is very similar in grade to usa petrol, and in the US they use a good tuning tool its called "Cobb Tuning Accessport" do some research on it. comes loaded with multiple maps for various setups (i.e. stock, turboback exhaust, etc.). It also allows for custom tuning by Cobb certified 'Pro-Tuners' or self-tuning with the purchase of Cobb's Street Tuner system

Won't he need an upgraded fuelpump "walbro" to raise the boost safe ??

absolutely

but the stock sti pump is good for 1.25 bar

well he said he is boosting 20 psi ! .. that is more than 1.25 bar i guess ! ..
totally in need for a walbro !

that is true, thats why I said his engine is a ticking bomb, his egts must be so high.

*dont forget that the max boost pressure efficiency you can run on a sti stock turbo is 20psi to, then it just blows hot air

20psi is really too much with low oct fuel, stock injectors/ fuel pump, and no ECU tuning @@

I wonder why all turbo guys thinking too much on boost ?? just get bigger turbo with higher flow rate, run lower boost and you will be really happy :D
