has anyone shipped anything heavy from the states??
i'm looking to ship small but heavy parts from the states and lookin into alternatives..
total weight will be around 100lbs (~40kg) but it's only the size of like 4 shoeboxes stacked 2x2
i can pick it up alone.. but it's too expensive to send aramex.. it'll cost me like 200bd for shipping that way..
it's too heavy for airmail.. but too small and light for container..
i've heard DHL can pick up the package and bring it all the way here for you..
i dunno if Fedex and the others can do the same thing...
has anyone shipped anything heavy from the states?

yeah, DHL fedex etc can do that for you, but its gonna come out pretty expensive. if you want it quickly your cheapest option is aramex. otherwise, send it by container. they can bunch it up with something else and give you a good price. or if you know anyone in the american base it can eb shipped to their address

Fedex should do it. They send things in cardboard boxes that have a weight capacitance. They come in boxes of 10KG and 20KG (the ones i have seen). So, i think you could send them in 2 boxes of 20KG, and they will charge you by box, since the box size will be fixed, all you need is something to fit into the box properly, and within its weight restriction.

thanks guys..
if i use aramex.. than i have to pay shipping 2x..
it'll cost $200-300 to ship it to NY
and then another 200bd at least for aramex to ship it to me...
aramex's slow mail method has alot of problems with customs when leaving the country and i've seen many things get stuck for weeks or months at JFK
i'm not really in rush it doesn't have to come "over night parts from Japaaaaan"
just get here in 1 piece...in a REASONABLE (2-3 weeks a month tops) amount of time
i dunno if cardboard can support that kind of weight? i was thinking something like a small wooden pallet/crate thingy...
it can't really be broken down much.. and i'd prefer to have it in 1 piece anyway if possible

Dude, the box says 20KG max on it, and its not ur egg carton cardboard, its high quality thick paper. We have boxes at home that my dad got from work that we used when we moved, and they can hold 20KG, i can promise you :)

containers come in different sizes too; just contact one or two shipping companies in the area where you want the thing shipped from... search yahoo for "shipping new york" or "shipping texas" or wherever ur getting them from

containers come in 2 sizes... (i know cuz i work in mina salman)
there is an LCL option for some shipping companies.. where u share a container with others
the problem is if the container is not full they wont load it on a ship..
so basically ur stuff sits and waits till the container is full.. then they load it up..
god knows how long that takes.. especially a small port like mina salman..
if only life wasn't so complicated :p

Thats tough Otto, you have to accept your options! If you can wait, then wait for an LCL shipment.
Otherwise find a passenger to bring it!

hey,
I have a Corporate account with TNT , I took a look at their price sheet
it says Door to Door service in the US for the First 20Kg is 40 BD and 2BD
per each extra KG Plus fuel surcharge which is around 8 %
So a total of 90 BD ( Door To door)
Ottoman
July 9th, 2007, 11:59 PM
that's an awesome price..
i wish i could get wasta up like that!
I paid 90bd to ship my Coilovers with aramex
and 95 bd for my Front mount intercooler kit for the eclipse..
90bd for door to door is awesome!

that sounds like the best option, as DHL/FEDEX are expenisve but it will get here quickl, dunno about aramex, but i use normal USPS mail and its great around 3 weeks and its here you get a letter from the muharraq post office and its here.
or if you want really really cheap find some one in the base as you only have to pay the shipping for inside the states, i used to see rims, full exhuast's comming through for only a few bucks daily in my old job.

it's a 600CC motorcycle engine..
so techinically it's a bunch of pieces.. but it's fully assembled (parting out)
so if i REALLY wanted i could have them break it down.. but then i have to re-assemble and re-torque everything.. which i'd rather not have to do..
just wanna slap it in and go
Really? So do we!!
Let me check those prices tomorrow morning.
Otto.. want me to get them for you?
that would be great..

Otto.. outa the subject, what's the custom % i have to pay when importing a car from the U.S that's manufactured in Japan.? at least direct me to the right person/dept., a phone number would be good.
much appreciated.
thnx..
Ottoman
July 10th, 2007, 09:56 AM
should be zero..
as far as i know.. as long as it's not a brand new 0 mileage car.. there is no duty on it from the states (free trade agreement)
worst case scenario is 5% i believe

you can always ask me about these stuff
if it has no "Made in Usa" there will a 5% duty for the customs after they value your car's price in the market.
and you also have to pay the port handling charges for ur car
you also gotta pay moroor for a guy to inspect your car at the port

how they gonna value the car in the market? and since it came from the state, as Otto mentioned, shouldn't it be tax free?? the agreement only apply on U.S products?
and what's the port handling fee that i have to pay?
thnx again.

Ottoman,
have u considered ground shipping?? :p
Ottoman
July 10th, 2007, 12:08 PM
yeah that's ok with me.. but ground shipping INSIDE the states is $200
and they just load it on a truck and drive it
international ground shipping will be a fortune...
the engine weighs 60kg (I checked the service manual)

i've decided to give it about 2 weeks...
if i can't find an engine here in the GCC
then i'll bring one from the states..
i'll buy it, and tell the seller not to ship it.. just hold onto it..
then i'll goto fedex and DHL here..
see how much they want to ship 60kg to bahrain..
and give them the companies address..
and then have them bring it here
hopefully i can find something in bahrain..and save 150 bd to spend on other more useful things..
fingers crossed

Otto, you should be looking at 80BD max for door to door to the US. I used to send a lot of engines back and forth to the US and I have always used Kanoo shipping, their offices are near the DHL offices. Keep in mind that if it is an engine, then it is best to send it intact and that the documents have to have the engine serial number on it and the same engine (serial number) should be the one sent back to you when its rebuilt, fixed etc.. This way you get around any customs as you declare the goods auto parts sent for repair. On the way back if it isnt the same serial number you will have problems at customs on the US side. If you are sending the engine and will be getting a rebuilt one then when you send make sure it just says auto parts only. This way you when they send it out it wont be a problem on the US customs side, unfortunatly you will probably pay customs here as it has been hit and miss for me.. IF you want it to be duty free then you have to show a bill of lading that has a clear description of the parts used and IF they are more than a certain percentage made in the US i think its either 30% or 70% not sure, then you will not be charged. My advise is just to pay it if they ask for it.. usually comes out to 20bd for a bike engine.
Having said all that, i do tend to use Kanoo who dont promise a ship by date but it is usually sent withen a week.. it then takes 3 days to get there as it usually travels on british airways :P. There is another guy who sends bike engines regularly but i dont have his contacts (could find if urgently needed).. i would try Kanoo first.
Hope this helps.

Thanks pinky..
actually i'm not sending a motor for a return trip
I want to buy a complete longblock from the states and have it brought here
the current motor was damaged and repairing it with new parts would cost alot more than just buying another 2nd hand motor from a crashed bike..
so I will part out the current motor.. and just buy a complete one..
therefore it will be a one way trip.
kanoo shipping eh? can they pick up and deliver here without having sent it?
