This question is really for Mitsubishi turbo guys but feel free to jump in. What are you guys using for tuning and how do you like it? Please name the tuning tool, car, ease of use and ease of installation please.

A'pexi super AFC 2 or the Neo

universal application for most japanese cars...

it's no where near the HP Tuners, but our ECM's are not OBD II and are not eeprom's

but it lets u get a decent fuel tune.. and lets u monitor some of the important aspects of the motor...

after that.. Comes the Greddy E-manage blue and ultimate
also universal application.. which can let u control timing as well as fuel...

next would be A'pexi POWER FC.. which is a full standalone but it's plug n play.. and application specific...

after this stage comes the other full Stand Alones

such as haltech motec microtech HKS FCON V PRO

to be honest.. u'll probably be happy with an S-AFC 2 or a Neo

unless ur planning on going above 400+ hp..

This was the exact info I was looking for. As of now I don't plan on on anything above 400. I'm looking to make the most out of the stock setup, mabey raise the boost (no further than 15psi w/ stock turbos) or mabey get some 13gs or something so that I can retain my stock fuel system setup though I have a Supra fuel pump.
I would like to be able to control timing as I always thought it was a major point of tuning but the price between those that do or don't allow it seems pretty high and from what I see alot of people are getting by just fine with the afc and alike stuff.
For the price and my goals which do you like best and which is the most popuar at the moment? I'm also guessing Ill need a data logger and wideband. Got my eye on a scanmaster for the datalogger.

no worries...

the DSM guys like dataloggers...alot of the other nissan/mazda/honda guys don't use em at all...

it's handy mostly for reading knock.. the rest is just "kinda nice to know"

tuning timing comes in handy the most when running race gas.. u can extract alot of power that way...

mods wise I suggest..(assuming u've done all the general maintenece stuff first)

intake, full exhaust (downpipe all the way back) boost controller and re-wire ur fuel pump.. as the supra pump is known to be a very voltage hungry animal.. clutch, flywheel pressure plate, short shifter, spark plugs, hard IC pipes..

dunno how good the stock intercoolers are on the 3S.. u might consider upgrading them.. or running water sprayer or alky injection..

keep an eye on Injector Duty Cycle and ur wideband and see what kinda boost u can make out of the stock twins...

u should be able to put down some good numbers assuming the engine is healthy... (have u done a compression check?)

Havent done a compression check yet but I think it's good. Hopefully Ill know soon enough. I do need to upgrade the piping. The stock piping is old and prone to leak. I'm not sure how good my stock twin intercooler are but from the research Ive done they seem to be fine for most stock turbo setups. If push comes to shove I could always go to a single intercooler setup from a DSM or Ebay. Just need piping. Im told most of the good exaust shops here can do the piping. Any good shops you know of?

personally i wouldn't get IC piping done locally..

a)it looks like a$$
b)they don't mandrel bend only press bend.. and in ur cramped engine bay that'll make a big difference..
c)they don't have performance in mind.. they just jerry rig it to work

you got your APO/FPO hook up.. use it to ur advantage and get urself a real intercooler kit... even an Ebay one is better than the local stuff made here..

even a 2nd hand set off the US classifieds of the forums would be a better choice

especially on the cramped and intricate engine bay of the 3Si i wouldn't do it locally.. your car has tons of US support... milk it..

Actually it doesnt have a ton of resources. It's a cheap car that maintains like a expensive car. Parts for the TT versions are hard to find and expensive.
FMIC kits for the 3s are expensive ($1100+) and so is piping. You made some good points about the bay room and the way the pipes are bent. If my intercoolers are good I may just order the piping from ebay though piping alone will run around $600 I think.
Hopefully once I work out all the bugs I can start getting to the fun stuff.

I hear ya.. the RX7 is like urs only 10x worse cuz it's not even a piston engine so there's no parts AND no mechanics :P

Good luck to ya Ray

turbo cars are a diff beast to the N/A V8's ur used to..

i'm sure u'll have your fustrating days as well as expected with any car of that age..

but on the occassions where our cars do run right and good.. the feel of the turbo spool makes it all well worth the trouble..

If u need any help with her.. gimme a shout...
