View Full Version : Screw LightSpeed

I think they should change the name from light speed to bicycle speed.
Our Batelco line was supposed to get canceled on the 19th but light speed asked them to disable it on 9th and 1 week latter on the 17th they sent us the username & password & I was amazed because people told me it will take 2 weeks to get the username & password.
Anyway I've changed the username & password in the router & changed few configurations & the internet line was dead so I called them & they said they'll send a report to the technical department and they will call me back.
Few days passed by and nobody called so I called them again & they told me the same thing until today where I got pissed off I went down to their office & asked them to cancel everything because its not really worth it.
They have a bad help desk, bad customer service & lately I've heard that their connection speed is so low and it has been around one month now.
We meet another guy in their office who came there to cancel his account as well.
So overall I regret the moment I signed up with them and all the delay & headache they made me go through and I really don’t advice anybody to THINK of signing up with them because they really suck.
Oh one more thing if you call them they don’t pick up the phone unless you keep on calling for like 10-15 mins.. what a service huh.
And their working hours is until 3 pm as they told me so If you have a problem with the internet after that nobody is there for you.
And they don’t work 7 days a week.
Anyway I've signed up with batelco again and the connection will come back after few days.
I had to let it out of my system thanks for reading :bunch:

In my opinion, i would not change batelco until i have seen everything that comes into the market, then do some re-search and see if its worth changing. Remember Batelco OWNS the landlines here and knows each and every unit. The new comers to the market will need alot of time to catch up unless they are going wireless.
Until then if you want to risk going with something NEW then you must have the patience with them to over-come their problems.
Just my 2fls..

Guys, just save yourselves the hassle and stick to Batelco will ya? They own the telecommunications business in the Kingdom, and that will never change. How many years has Batelco been digging up the whole of Bahrain and wiring it up? You think these guys will show up in a day and beat them? They know how to do the work, and they always succeed. No one understands the Bahraini mind as much as they do.
So, whatever company thinks it will beat Batelco, or compete with it, keep dreaming on and hanging onto false hopes.

Zex, i told them that, prolly theyll give us a discounted rate. But we all know they cant be a proper ISP and un this service, theyll hvae to buck up, for get lost. Next month WiMax is coming and unless they fix their service, theyre screwed
btw, if anyone didnt know, the reason their service is shitty, is cos they didnt expect this many customers and this much use, theyre upgrading tomeet demand, there is no system fault.
and they did do one thing wrong, give us the worst set of IPs, the 87.1xx and 87.2xx range are the ones msot used by scam and spam and is blocked by so many irc, forums and basic sites

i dont suggest sticking with batelco, but right now your options arent even reliable enough to move. wait it out, the next 2 or 3 months are gonna see some good changes. wimax will be released, lightspeed is going to stablize etc etc... so just wait a bit, and then decide.

fwon , which sites you can't access ?
i think they should've planned for the huge amount of users , you know , unlimited speed , less money , most ppl will go for it
will wait this week , if they didn't go right , will sign out (messenger mob connection :p_)

Zex, some sites ban you from registerin bcoz of your ip range, others work because they have a broader search method.

wimax is MTC/Zains new product. its a wireless connection all over bahrain, so they dont need batelco cables. they set up a device in your house to strengthen your signal and you can either connect wires there or use the wireless. no, its not like ego, thats a different concept.
its still a limited connection though.

heres the info on the packages:
Basically they are offering three packages, ALL are at a speed of 2mbps. There is WiMax coverage all over Bahrain. After applying it would take them around 3 days to actually come over your house and setup the device and attach an antenna outside. There is no setup fee. For each package you would get a 136xxxxx number (voice over ip) and you can call unlimited calls to other 136xxxxx numbers for free.
Here are the packages:
Zain@home Medium: BD18, 6GB Bandwidth
Zain@home Large: 30BD, 12GB
Zain@home Xlarge: 48Bd, 24GB
Note: Wimax device would cost 40BD if taken with a 12-month contract.

I have a feeling thats what BATELCO has had in plan all along. Let all the companies purchase equipment, update, upgrade, and all the other stuff they are wasting money on, and just give us unlimited like it was before, and crush the competition, and keep their prices as they are!

Sounds good, i like the wireless thing and the speed is 2MB but i will still wait and stay with Batelco for now. I'm on the BD40 and i never reach my limit..have never.. i never download anything from the net anyway...dont know how yet!

October 2nd, 2007, 04:01 AM
the zain@home concept is a first and so far no other country has embarked on it yet.
Mena Telecom are supposed to have a similar service up soon but no one knows when exactly.
Like the other guys said these companies are relatively new so we'll just have to wait and see how well they progress.
But one thing's for sure they will put pressure on Batelco to change and with more and more services opening up it won't be long before the net penetration increases.
Anyways the zain@home 24GB sounds like a good offer except the technology is new and hardware is expensive

You can keep dreaming buddy. Our broadband is not on a normal telephone line, its by cable  I am downloading movies like crazy. They only take about 40mins each, an hour if its 1GB file. No lag in using the net itself either, and I download more than one thing at a time, about 4 movies together at once.

No, but I plan on getting one sometime soon. What do I need 7MB/s for? All this for 54 GBP, and divide that by 4? I pay 13.75 a month, 10BD or maybe a little bit over. Where can you beat that offer? And I have my own receiver in my room, and my own TV, which i payed for with 2 Marlboro boxes lol 29" TV for 10BD, not bad eh?
And besides, the guys with me in the house only use the net for browsing & MSN, so I have most of the connection to myself.
