Hey guys

I'm thinking of installing a Chevy V8 on my 95 4.6 HSE RANGE ROVER. The Rover powerplant is giving me a hard time. Most of parts can be obtained from Austrailia. but I'm not sure where to start off from, the only problem I might face is the Transmission and Xfer case (I'm trying to keep the original ZF tranny since it's very hard to replace) any suggestions???

Yeah a 5.7 TPI or an LT1 would be a great choice and would bolt up with the ZF unit :lildevil:

There are alot in Austrailia but then there's the cost of shipping. Plus are there any experienced Land Rover mechanics (PLEASE I BEG YOU DON'T MENTION SAJJAD OR KOHZAD they're full of :bs: )

if you want a fuel injected engine, dont bother with the TPI, get a LT1 or LS1, salsa has an Ls1 engine with everything. if you don;t want fuel injection get a vortec 350:bigok: ....where in aus are you btw?...

It would be really useful if you would read the full topic carefully before you start replying. He said the car is a Range Rover with a truck application the low end torque is most needed to move the heavy vehicle and I don’t think that there is another option when it comes to low end torque it’s the TPI motor what you need and BTW he has a ZF unit and he mentioned that he wanna keep his ZF and he don’t wanna replace it THE ZF MOTOR WONT FIT A GENIII BLOCK (LS1 TYPE).

Stoneheart i dont want to bother myself and check the torque numbers, but putting in a fuel injected chevy engine in that truck requires a lot of work and the work would be more worthwhile if he gets an LT1 or LS1 engine...TPI engines are outdated now, you can;t even find parts for them...plus if you think TPI motors are fast then you're about 11 years behind.

the other main reason is that with an LT1 his car will be A LOT faster and more fun to drive...

i just saw the pic of the car, my advice is to find a totaled new model gmc or chevy truck 96 onwards and buy the engine with all its accessories, brackets, wiring, ecm, etc...you'll have a reliable engine..

salsa has one but i dont think he wants to sell it, i think he wants to install it in his corvette..

I think the LS1 is not an option any more because the engine must bolt on the ZF tans. And I didn’t say the TPI would be faster than the LT1 I said it would have more torque than the LT1 down low and that’s where most truck need there power band and did he say that he wants to race his truck to get the fastest engine on earth? BTW with some minor mods the TPI can take an LT1 in the ¼ mile. If he wants an EFI engine he can go with TPI or LT1 if carb then a Vortec engine as you mentioned.

If I was gonna swap an engine on a light weight car I would go with the LT1 but on a heavy truck I will chose the TPI.

thnxs 4 all the help. I'll PM Salsa383 and get some suggestions.

I was wondering if it was possible to fit a BMW 4.4 V8 (I know it is by far a MORE expensive option but it is definitely compatible with the ZF transmission)

well basically the tpi and lt1 are the same engines except the external things are changed, the intake is changed and the compression ratio in the LT1 is higher, that's why its more powerful..the tpi has low end torque due to the design of the intake, if you want to modify the TPI you would have to change the intake to get more top end power which costs a lot...TPI engines do make reasonable power but have no chance against newer model modified engines.
