do all small cars have tyre rumble...the echo had it, the focus has it, can anything be done to get rid of that awful noise

dosnt seems to be there as much in bigger cars

does the tyre brand /size play a role?

i had the same thing with a mit.lancer and the focus now!with the lancer i changed all of the four tires did the balancing and all that stuff, but somehow it seems that smaller cars are closer to the ground or sumthin,so the rumblin sounds somehow always seem to be there,a real diffrence between driving-riding any of those and a bigger car!

It definitely has to do with your tires, cheaper cars usually cmoe with economy tires. If you want the noise to go away, put on high performance tires.

This may not sound reasonable, but thats what happens when the price tag is low.

tire brand buddy :up2:

check tirerack.com for noise on your tire model and brand

road noise has to do with

the design of tire
the surface of the road
and

how much noise insulation your car has.. bigger more expensive cars also have more sound insulation that prevents the noise from being transmitted to the passenger compartment

After you change tires , if the problem doesn't disappear , buy sound insulation solutions

they come in sheets , you remove all the carpets (until you reach metal) put on a special glue and put on these sheets (after cutting them) , you can put them in the floor , trunk , doors

too many corvette owners on Corvetteforums.com (i think) do this because of all the noise , they also put it in the center console (sounds from gearbox)

and it really works , not just road noise , even exhaust sound will be less from inside

with the golf u move to a bit higher level above the echos and the lancers and those damn c3's....it's a bit more expensive and a bit more comfortable,u get what you pay for bro!i whouldnt recommend that anyone who's not willing to put his hand in his pocket more oftenly for the maintanance and spareparts, since it costs more over here, and these merciless summers throws it at the far end of the most reliable gulf cars' line....nothing's wrong with the car, it's a very cool, not much of a heavy drinker at all,and it lasts for at least a copule of years befor acting all booga booga!

true,true

would u believe i spent a while using the earplugs i use on me bike while riding the car :p

its an econo box and i dont wanna spend 100bucks on bridgestones, at the mo i put on fresh federals up front (someone recommended them on a lumiina so i thought theyd be fine on a focus) i wanna replace the rears

what about kumho? i not interested in going up to briggestone/michelin territory

Kumho are very good tyres. Quieter tyres are expensive. They have special compounds and thread designs. Its normal in an economic car to hear road noise.

Better tyres and sound insulation are the only way to reduce it. Road surfaces also play a heavy role in the noise.

Don't expect it to be as quiet as it would be in a big luxury car, as they are made of beefier materials, and hence insulate sound better.

it's not about nice or rice or ugly cars , it's YOUR comfort , you want to be comfort while cruising all the way to work , get new tires and if they don't work , sound deadening

Here is a question for you Tameem. Did you buy the car from the dealer? And if yes, when was the last time you changed the tyres? How much tread is left in them? Has the rubber compound of the tyre gone hard and crusty? Can you see little cracks on the edges of the treads?

ford motor oil....change every 5000 kilos

by tyre rumble i mean the noise the tyres make (against the road) when the car is moving

adm bought sec hand with 30000kilos on it only, changed the front recently, planning on changing the rears this weekend
