Now, lets see if we have the same as they do, shall we.

Congratulations our brothers from KSA. You guys deserve it after all you have to put up with.

these raises are nice, and would have been nicer if they were planned to match the interest rates, now they will raise the inflation rates badly, I was in Doha last weekend and OMG everything is expansive for no reason other than people can afford it.

only for the greedy ones.

And I agree with what sarz just said. Raises need to be studied as it has a great effect on inflation. Salary isn't everything, the cost of living counts too.

JUN, studdied doesnt mean a long time, and I wasnt talking about Bahrain, I was talking in general on how things should be done, if you want to bench mark everything to Bahrain you might as well bench mark to bany Quraish 1500 years ago.

when it comes to citizens.. believe me.. IT IS a long time.

but when they wanted to give a raise to the parliament members, it was agreed for IMMEDIATELY ! and it wasnt 30BD, it was 1500-2000BD each!!

by comparing both situations, go back a few years and see WHEN they decided to give us a raise. now, look at WHEN they decided to give THMESELVES a raise. there is a HUGE difference bro! im not talking about a few months here, im talking about YEARS! and bany Quraish's lives werent as expensive as ours even! :p

I thank my god every day that I don't live a life where my employment is directly reliant on government wage!

What is even funnier is that any raise to the public sector is coming straight out of our private sector pockets! You think the government is gonna pay for you? Think again!

Visa charges have gone up by 200%, insurance costs and GOSI costs have been mandatorily implemented, bank charges and labour fee charges have been increased, material prices have gone up due to infaltion and exchange rates etc etc etc .

I will bet anyone here to show me that a single fils from the extra oil revenue and related incomes are going to the pocket of your average government employe! ANYONE!!!!

whoever is deciding on these salary raises is an idiot. raises = more cash flowing around in the country, which in turn means raised prices which will shortly follow. so in the end, the raises are offset by the inflation, and its considered just a temporary increase in wealth as the value of your currency drops a little more. looking at the financial and economical decisions made by (most of) the gulf countries, i would say they have absolutely no idea how economies work.

the only people doing right are qatar and oman, who want their currency to be devalued as they have only just started diversifiying their income generation, and need their currency to be priced low to attract more foreign capital. as for bahrain, theyre supposedly copying whatever saudi does. and saudi is being america's *****. and the UAE hasn't got a clue what to do, their economy moved too fast for them to understand how to control it.

Your average bahraini gets a 10% pay rise by the government. But this poor bahraini doesnt realise is that the government has increased contractors costs by 200%. Couple that with the 70% increase in material costs due to inflation.. and you get a poor bahraini who cant afford to buy or build a house!!!!

Pathetic!

At least its better than getting a large sum of money, and then they start cutting out of it for your health benefits (SMC - if you can every recognise it as a hospital), your garbage being picked up everyday, social security, the army, public developments and educational tax. And they do not pay income tax.

Now, imagine getting a large sum of money, and then when you get your pay slip, you see all the money being deducted from your salary for this and that, and you are left with nothing.

I still wonder where all the 300% profit from oil production goes. Must have been used to build a few palaces already, and a paid for a few islands somewhere in the middle of the world.

Oh well, welcome to Bahrain :)

ADM, no need to wonder anymore, use google earth!

Regarding income tax, YES! Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs are asking us to pay income tax on rent received from any properties we have in the UK!

This will be applicable Jan 2008 onwards! Non resident owners were exempt from that previously!!!

Also, if you have property in the UK, and you die, the govt takes inheritance tax! God Daaaaaaaaaaamn..

But atleast you know that the council takes good care of you, and your voice is heard and that some idiot who's bills you are paying wont screw you over just cause he can!!!!

i dont think their is a GOSI type entity in the UK or US (correct me if i'm wrong here) but instead the taxes that the western goverments collect goes to social welfare, civil works, etc.. etc... which imo is what GOSI does over here! (sort off...)

You are wrong, it is a pension plan, and the percentage is 6%, the Insurance is the other 1 percent that they recently started deducting.
6% is what they take from you the remaining iirc is paid by the company (private sector)
Btw Pension plans are not required by law in most countries (their are only legal guidlines for companies to follow) each company can provide a plan of its own if it wants.

Here you are legally obligated to pay a government agency a cetrain share of your salary... other wise why cant i choose to go to alico who provide life savings plans which is essentially a retirment plan directly.. the only way to do that is pay Gosi and Alico at the same time! hence my "sort of" remark in the earlier post.

UK citizens working in Bahrain for a Bahrain based company do not have to pay income tax, and are like the rest of us. But if they were working for a UK based company and are positioned in Bahrain, then yes, they pay income tax to the UK government.

But how can a Bahraini who is working for a non-Bahrain establishment have to pay the Bahraini government income tax? Is that not a rip-off? Can't someone make a decent living without being ripped off by our fcuked up government?
