was roamin in home center yesterday and at the entrance they had a renault megane sport hatch a bit boxy compared to other sports hatches imo,
upon reading the specs it showd 225hp six speed manual, had nice rims and sporty seats and overall looked kinda nice
question is
what makes a car classified a "sports car"
id understand if the gtr, vette,M line from bmw even cars a bit under (350z, g35 about 300hp) that level be considered sports cars
but cars like the megane, clio sport, golf are packing between 180-225bhp, true they may be way zippier ( would love to own one :) )than your corolla and even put some 6cycl cars to shame but it made me wonder

I personally think that the term "Sports Car" is used when a car is made when performance is put in mind before other aspects like economy, luxury, etc.
I mean the Megane Sport is faster, stiffer, and is equipped with high performance parts -within its level- and more detailed manufacturing than the normal version.
That's what I think, I'm sure there are better ways of clarifying it.

there are sports cars and sport compacts
i think the clio , megane , golf , CTR , eclipse , etc are called Sport compacts
and the vetter , skyline , z , GT-R are called sport cars

so the m5 with its leather seats, nav, and all goodies makes it a sports compact or is it the perfect package? it seems to have the performance/luxury/groceries package all in one

It's the perfect package, with the exception of all AMG models. Those cars are just heavenly!

That's what I used to think, until I drove one on the circuit. And let me tell you this, I am no Schumacher, and I will not talk like I am.
That AMG was more than good enough for me on the track!
I suggest you think the same way and dont mimic magazines and car programs!

The JDM vs. LS1 phase has finished.
The Merc vs. BMW phase has started, and it's more fun
