Husband's rage
By MOHAMMED ASLAM
A BAHRAINI taxi driver who spotted his "disco-loving" wife going into a hotel with a group of men, has been fined BD10 for assaulting her.
But he will not have to pay the fine provided he does not re-offend, since the Lower Criminal Court suspended the sentence for three years.
His Bahraini wife, 31 (20 years younger than him), also submitted a letter to the court, asking to withdraw her complaint against him.
The couple appeared in court together to hear the verdict.
The defendant denied assaulting and injuring his wife at their home, last November.
He told police he was in Exhibition Avenue, Manama, when he saw his wife getting out of a car with some men and going into a hotel.
"My wife loves to go to discos and I saw her wearing a low-neck dress that revealed a large part of her breasts," said the husband.
"I saw her entering the hotel and approaching a Saudi man, who got up and greeted her.
"I followed her inside the hotel and as soon as she saw me, she left the place.
"When I returned to my house I asked her what she was doing in the hotel.
"She got angry and started abusing me, my mother and sisters. Then she then went to the police station to complain against me and there too she was shouting at me and cursing and abusing me in front of the policemen."
The woman told police she was at her mother's house when her husband rang and started abusing her.
"When I returned to my house that night with my girlfriend, he beat me badly in front of her and abused me," she said. "He also wanted to damage the car that I had hired."
