Why Did Season 3 End After Only 13 Episodes?

Despite the recent ending to the writers' strike, and the fact that several shows will be airing new episodes in a few months, Prison Break Season 3 only lasted 13 episodes.


Nick Santora says: "There just isn't time to show any eps in the spring. We have to start from a standstill, it will be months before production starts. The episodes you watch on TV have been shot months in advance."



Will There be a Season 4 and What Would that Storyline Be About?


The answer to this question is currently unknown. TV Guide's Ausiello thinks that PB is over, but Nick Santora has said that we shouldn't take Ausiello's statements as definitive. Nick says that the show is never picked up for another season this early in the year and we will likely know the fate of Prison Break by May.


Nick also says "We are working on trying to figure out a story arc for season 4 and how it would all play out, etc, while not leaving things hanging from season 3. I am confident we will get another season. There are no guarantees, but I'd be shocked if it didn't happen".

I remember reading somewhere that PB was originally meant for 2 seasons, but due to the shows sky high ratings and inreasing interest they somehow e-longated the story into 3 seasons.
