Lover faces sex assault charge

A BAHRAINI caught in his lover's bedroom by her father has been charged with sexual assault.

The 19-year-old fled barefoot after leaping from a window when the father caught and punched him, but was spotted by police, the Lower Criminal Court heard.

He is charged with sexually assaulting the 20-year-old Bahraini girl even though she was a willing lover, because she is below 21, which is the legal age of sexual consent.

The defendant is also charged with entering the home of the girl's 59-year-old father, without his permission or knowledge.

The girl told police she met her lover through a girlfriend and they struck up a relationship over the phone.

She said they first had sex when he called at her house in January 2006 and she sneaked him into her bedroom.

They were caught by her father in February last year, the court heard.

Police stopped the defendant after spotting him running barefoot in a Manama street, at night.

They questioned him and he told them that he was with his girlfriend in her bedroom when her parents found out about him.

He said he jumped from the bedroom window and ran away.

The police took him back to the girl's house and her father told them he found him hiding in his daughter's bedroom.

"When I punched him, he jumped from the window and escaped," said the father.

The court adjourned the case until June 12, to give the defence lawyer time to present his submissions.

I am sorry, but I must disagree. Rape is the act of performing acts of sexual nature on someone, against their will.

And shouldn't she also be sent to jail for having sex with a "minor"?

We have had lots of similar cases here in the UK.

Lets put America as an example. Legal age for sexual relationships is 18. If a 17 year old girl had sex with a 15 year old boy, is that considered rape? Regardless of where it takes place, and it commenced under the consent of both parties, does it make it rape? I cannot see how he raped her, seriously.

And same goes for Bahrain. Legal age is 21. Guy sneaks into the house to have sex with a girl, upon her consent. She sneaks him into her house, has sex with him, and he is even younger than her! Yet, both are under 21. He didn't force her to do anything. There is no way it can be called rape. Call it fornication, underage sex...they apply to the situation.
