quotes taken from this (http://www.gulfgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30195) thread.
talk talk talk we need numbers .. the vette prooved it self all these years
who wins the lemans ?????????? specially the 24hrs lemans ????????????? C6-R
we need to see a GTR in action .. car and driver mag article was just the beginning and hope we don't see much drawbacks in the GTR anytime soon
But can they run full throttle for 24 hours straight? Chevy plays with the big boys, it races internationally, not just in a national manufacturers championship.
here's ur answer boys. its no Lemans, but still 24hrs.
The Tokachi-bound R35 Nissan GT-R is on a carbon-rich diet, as evidenced by images captured by our new friends at GTR-World. On the outside, the trunk lid, hood and side mirrors have been replaced with carbon fiber bits and the rear-quarter windows have been swapped out in favor of lightweight acrylic pieces. The stripped cockpit gets a carbon fiber racing bucket, a fire suppression system (with a carbon fiber mounting bracket) and a C.F. gauge and dash surround that's expected to migrate to the Nissan GT-R V-Spec when it goes on sale next year (look for the dry-carbon mirrors too).
The only other additions needed to make the R35 ready for its 24-hour race are the on-board pneumatic air jacks, a new steering wheel, a racing harness and the bolt in roll cage, which is more for safety than stiffness. GTR-World is reporting that NISMO isn't doing any additional spot-welding to the body, as the stock GT-R's chassis is stiff enough to campaign in a production race class without modification. Look for more coverage of the NISMO/MOTUL GT-R when it hits the tarmac in Tokachi on July 20th and 21st, and rest assured that many of the carbon fiber pieces that have been developed for the race car will find their way to Nissan retailers as either dealer-installed options or on the forthcoming V-spec.

Well, it will still have to win the race, won't it? :) And yea, it might not be Le Mans, but you have to consider the track, distance and how much full throttle will be applied during the race in comparison to the Z06 driving on the Le Mans track?
Announcing participation means nothing. Winning means everything :)

factory body, interior strip and add ons like cf touches for less weight.. which means, the whole car will not be transformed into a CF shell.

Maybe thats the rules of the race. Every team will want to make their cars as light as possible.
Regardless of the body specifications of the race version, lets see if it will be able to win the race.

Corvette Racing Claims First GT1 Pole for 24 Hours of Le Mans
In LM GT1, Corvette Racing's Jan Magnussen scored the pole position in an exciting battle in Thursday's second session. The Dane's 3:47.669 lap time in the No. 63 Corvette C6.R was nearly 4.5 seconds faster than the Corvette's qualifying run last year.
"It didn't start off too well because we were all packed together," Magnussen recalled of his pole-winning lap. "I thought I'd be able to pass two GT2 cars in front of me on my out lap, but I didn't catch them until Tertre Rouge on my first flyer. I lost some time on the straightaway, but just as I was starting to get angry, a prototype whipped past me. I got into his slipstream and got back all of the time I'd lost!"
It was the first pole for a Corvette at Le Mans since 1976 when John Greenwood set the fast time in the IMSA class. Despite its five class wins since coming here in 2000, neither of the Pratt & Miller-run cars has ever secured the top spot before. Perhaps the pole position will mean extra luck for Magnussen and co-drivers Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell?
"Winning the pole at Le Mans is historic, but at some point in time it was also inevitable," said Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan. "It's a testament to the team's perseverance, dedication to the mission, flawless preparation, and most of all, to GM management's belief in the value of this program. That commitment has allowed Corvette Racing to compete here at Le Mans for nine consecutive years, and that continuity is what produces success."
Christophe Bouchut in the Larbre Competition Saleen S7R continued to impress, as the rapid Frenchman ripped off a 3:47.761 late in second session to claim second. Bouchut had ambitions of putting the mid-engined supercar on pole, but he came up 0.093 seconds short. Bouchut and co-drivers Patrick Bornhauser and David Halladay will face an uphill battle going against the factory-backed Corvettes and Aston Martins.
The No. 64 Corvette Racing entry of Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Max Papis ended up third, also improving on its time from Wednesday. Their 3:48.539 lap time edged the two Aston Martin Racing DBR9s, which have yet to show the pace to the Corvettes and Larbre Saleen.
Patrick Long stormed to the LM GT2 pole position, posting a 3:58.152 lap time in today's night session. The American Porsche factory driver is part of the IMSA Performance Matmut squad, the defending class winners. Long and co-drivers Raymond Narac and Richard Lietz have the upper edge again in their quest for two in a row.
"It was a tough fight against the other Porsche drivers and our rivals from Ferrari," Long said. So this makes it even more wonderful to come out on top when in fact our focus was on finding a good race setup. You notice the positive further developments of the 911 mostly in the fast Porsche Curves, where the car is much calmer compared to last year."
Friday is a rest day for most teams as they prepare for the race start on Saturday afternoon. However, fans will be treated to an open pit walk to see the cars up close and personal. Then, in the afternoon, the very popular driver's parade will rip up the streets of downtown Le Mans.

(from GM Press Release) Corvette and Aston Martin went head-to-head in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, trading blows through a gruelling day and night of racing. When the battle finally ended at 5 pm on Sunday, Corvette Racing had won the GT1 class in the world's premier endurance car race for the fifth time in six years.
The winning Corvette, with 580 horsepower, completed 355 laps, made 25 faultless pit stops, and won by a five-lap margin of victory.
Corvette Racing extended its perfect finishing record in the 24 Hours of Le Mans to six consecutive years and Corvette became the manufacturer with the most wins in recent GT history at Le Mans.
“This is a very special time in Corvette history - five Le Mans wins in six years is an incredible achievement against strong competition," commented David Venticich, regional marketing director for General Motors in the Middle East. “As well as the exceptional skill and talent of the driving team, this win is thanks to the combined work of a very dedicated crew of mechanics, top-class engineers and visionary decision makers. We would like to congratulate the team on their outstanding victory and wish them the best of luck for 2007!”
The 2006 Corvette is a performance car that is at home in virtually any environment, whether daily commuting or weekend racing. Coupe and Convertible models come with the LS2 6.0L V-8 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. It is matched to a rear transaxle that helps improve vehicle weight balance – a six-speed manual is standard and the new six-speed paddle shift transmission with automatic modes is available. The front and rear short/long arm suspensions reflect the most competition-influenced suspension tuning in the Corvette’s history.
Dramatic fender forms and exposed headlamps combine with the grille to create a strong visual identity for the Corvette, while the tapered rear deck and fascia improve high-speed performance. The lean rear design sports round tail lamps and centre-exit exhaust. The fixed Xenon high-intensity discharge headlamps provide superior lighting performance. With a 0.286 coefficient of drag, the Coupe models are the most aerodynamic Corvettes ever.
The Corvette nameplate also offers the Corvette Z06, the race-bred vehicle which is the fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever built as well as the fastest, most powerful production car ever offered by General Motors. Its LS7 V-8 engine achieves 505 horsepower at 6300 rpm, delivering the 1423 kg Z06 a 0-100 km/h performance of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 318 km/h. The Z06 is now available from dealers across the Middle East region.
About Corvette
Corvette, under the Chevrolet division of General Motors Corporation, is the world’s largest vehicle manufacturer’s flagship performance car. In continuous production since the 1953 model year and with a total production of over 1.2 million units worldwide, the Corvette is truly an automotive icon.
The evolution of Corvette into the global benchmark for high performance sports cars is today the stuff of motoring legend. The new generation Corvette C6 has been thrilling both loyalists and a new generation of enthusiasts alike since its launch in the Middle East region at the end of 2004.

^^thats a crazy article. Thanx for sharing.
Of course it deserves respect, ive been respectin' US cars after the ZO6 dropped. I've never respected any US cars before, cuz of the quality and stabilit, But now, after readin more about sport US cars im startin t like them. Im even thinkin of gettin myself an american car for daily drive and keep the GTR for occasional use. The only thing left for them to do is to give all their sport cars top notch interior, and they r gettin' there.

Each class of cars compete amongst themselves within their own class, and the Corvette has dominated its class over the years. You simply cannot compare pilots or prototypes to GTs either.
