View Full Version : when will the car prices go down?

Ottoman

I keep hearing from ppl the car prices will go down.. but when?

a Civic costs 8,000 bd!

so does a corrolla..

IS300's and 320i have reached 17k

our BD is worth $hit right now..

the 04 CTR in the paper is asking for 6,700 bd HAH!

the market is absolutely flooded with 350Z's.. every week in mina salman i see at least 2-3 come in from the states...
last night I counted 6 in adliya some right behind each other...

and yet they still cost 7k for beat up ones with high mileage in poor condition!

and ppl were telling me my m5 was overpriced... u can't get anything even remotely close to it in terms of performance, luxury, handling, build quality etc.. I think it was a Steal 9ara7a!

i'm going to go showroom shopping tommorrow.. but tbh i'm not expecting anything..

if u don't have 10k in your pocket.. u can't buy anything decent...and even then it will be pretty weak..

so when are we supposed to get these amazing deals that ppl keep talking about??

In reality

it seems our currency has become stronger

in Q1 2008 each Euro would cost us BHD 0.600
now we just need BHD 0.480

in Q1 2008 each GBP would cost us BHD 0.700
now we just need BHD 0.510

so, that mean our currency has actually got stronger
theoretically it should mean we are supposed to pay less for our
imports .

Right now, it's the currency factor that determines "your" price apparently, but in reality, dealers are still trying to rape you out of whatever little money you have left!

Give it a few more months when people actually "stop" buying, then you will see the drastic reductions and special offers!

Sit tight my friend, it's a tough road ahead. You might even consider NOT buying when the **** hits the fan!

I went to all the show rooms on saturday

I started from one end.. drove all the way up 1 side

and the u-turned and drove down the other..

and 95% of the cars are cheap plastic pieces of CRAP!

What the hell am i paying for?? it sure aint build quality..

civic "full option" is 8,500bd.. and all it gets u is leather sunroof and xenons..
the dashboard takes up half of the interior space and the interior door handles felt like they would come off in my hands..

the Accord was decent.. but what pissed me off... is that the car was made for Right hand drive.. so the whole center console and radio and stuff is leaning towards the right.. not towards the left.. so even though the steering wheel is on the left.. they didn't bother making a LHD dashboard..
it's a symeterical dash that they put on all cars.. only swapping the place of the glovebox and the steering column.. shame on honda

the mitsubishi eclipse was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.. they should call it the Chery eclipse.. i sat in the yellow one and the headliner was sagging almost 2 inches.. i could push it up and down with my hand.. it was pathetic.. the seats were nice tho.. recaro like

The EVO interior wasn't much better.. and the new motor has lost the mean turbo 4G sound.. but hey for 19k at least u get a radio from the wakale now!

the FJ cruiser is literally a Toyota H3.. having been in good quality cars like the avalon... the FJ felt terrible.. and the Giant Dildo of a gear lever was the piece de resistance! it didn't have a solid well built feel to it what so ever.. all the plastics felt very hollow and ready to rattle at any minute.. and i dunno about u guys.. but just cuz my car is blue on the outside.. doesn't mean i want my whole dashboard to be blue as well constantly reminding me of what color my car is..

the corolla even with the seat all the way back.. i couldn't get my knees under the steering wheel.. it was like having sportscar inconvience without sportscar performance...

MX5 was a nice car felt well built and solid except for the center console area.. which was a little cheapy... but 10.5 is too much for a car with so little power..

the mini cooper S was 17 THOUSAND DINARS!! my eyes were gonna pop out of my head! i pulled a WTF at that.. that's just rediculous... and the giant Speedo in the middle reminds me of the rapper Flavor Flav.

the z4 coupe was 20,500.. i remember last ramadan.. i ALMOST bought one for 16,500 the same 3.0Si

the Jag XF looked great from outside.. but even it's interior was poor

for 32,000 bd and such a posh brand i was expecting alot better..

the cup holders and cubby bins had so much Play and slop in them.. i could rattle it with my hands.. and the trim on the center dashboard area.. wobbles and doesn't feel secure at all.. a 3 year old will have fun pulling it off on the school trips..

the C30 R design was cool from the outside.. but the interior was TOO spartan for me..

anyways.. i could complain about the massive quantity of crap cars I saw
but i wont bother..

went to ford and they don't even have a mustang in gear 3adi.. and it would be stupid to buy one now with the '10 so close and so much better..

370Z wont be here till end of this year as well

the only cars worth mentioning..

Peugeot 308.. (yup i'm as suprised as u are) i sat in it with my GF and we were both like Woah..
so much better then i expected..
the dashboard was LEATHER WRAPPED! with baseball stitching and everything
climate controlled seats the materials felt very high quality and solid..
after being in all those cheap and claustrophobic cars it was a relief..
the best part.. was the panaromic glass roof.. from front to back..
it made the inside feel so much brighter and lively and uplifting..
and a city driver and a DD it blows away the golf and civic and stuff..

the only other cars worth mentioning was the subaru's..
the new legacy and impreza seem like very good value for money..
it's cheaper then a corolla.. u get more space.. more size better handling better looks and more power..
plus u get to say u have a Boxer engine :D which only the porsche guys can usually say...

other than that.. the market here is $hit..

no Civic Type R (we don't even get the Si or a hatch version period!)
no S2000
no Ford Focus ST (let alone RS)
no Fiat 500
no Alfa Mito

no wonder everyone here drives all the same boring cars... cuz we got nothing to choose from..

Audi is overpriced new.. 09 TT is 18k 08 TT is 15k

A4 is nice as well but steeeeep

the only audi I really want is an S3.. but guess what? They don't bring it.. SUPRISE SUPRISE!!

Dodge.. I like the Challenger SRT8.. the rest I'm not a fan of..

porsche.. I've looked at a couple boxster s's.. they're all Gay tiptronic.. :(

VW i'm waiting for the Scirocco.. but they don't know when they'll get it..

MB.. is too old man of a car for me.. but I like the C class with the AMG kit and rims.. looks good.. it's a well made car.. C240 with 7G would be a great bankers car... just not my "kind" of car..

checked out Chevy and Caddy.. CR8 and Z06 were the only 2 cars that made me slow down my walking Pace..

Renault.. they don't make anything to stir the blood these days...

I checked out the G37S.. nice car.. much better deal then a mini cooper at 17k.. but i'd rather have the 370Z in MANUAL...

I really like the 09 RX8..

i asked around... they don't sell them in UAE anymore.. I have to check in qatar and kuwait still

i guess my only alternatives would be the US or perhaps Europe..

but if I'm spending that much.. i'd better be damn sure I want the car for long term..

and when spending that much.. u have such a wide options of cars to buy in the 2nd hand market..

I've been looking at 2003-2004 Cayenne's and Range rovers.. and they're all in the 10-11,000 range..
but I need to do more research on their long term reliability before committing to one..

I live in awali.. and work in hidd..

that's alot of miles

I can't drive a boring a$$ car.. it should at least be peppy and fun.. not numb and dull.. (so no lexuses short of an IS-F)

i spend 80% of the time alone in the car.. sometimes 1 passenger.. so it's totally pointless and wasteful for me to drive a 3 ton escalade that takes 2.5 parking spaces or something like that..

i would prefer a hot hatch, a coupe or a convertible.. but there are a few sedans I would consider...

I want to look forward to driving it, something that stirs the blood, something exciting, something that makes u want to look for an excuse to drive the car again.. something that makes u want to spend time in the car and take the long way home... it doesn't need 400hp either.. just peppy nippy and zingy is enough..

what I don't want is a run of the mill soccer mom/ grocery getter type of car..

budget is flexible..

after seeing all the bull$hit cars on the market up close..

i'm honestly considering saving my money and just buying a cheap 2nd hand car like an EK9 or a 4th Gen lude or something.. and putting the rest in the bank..

hell investing a little money in the FC on a paintjob fender flares and a lower lip with new tires on the volk wheels looks like a better proposition then wasting 8 grand on a Single cam Civic.

I drove my 8 yr old M5for more than a year.. and put more than 20,000 on it

I changed the oil, a couple of bushings, 1 rubber vacuume hose, and 1 cam angle sensor...

it never once left me stranded on the road or refused to start...

if I can get get THAT kind of reliability out of the range i don't mind

but from what I've seen.. their interiors seem to fall apart rather fast (flaking/fading paint, or breaking interior plastics etc) or perhaps the previous owners were totally negligent

you have a point about the flaking interior which is a trademark of british craftsmanship.

but as long as you get to do regular service you should be fine

only concern is the air suspension which can be very costly if they fail

i'll be honest with you the Range failed my dad twice, one was from the alternator and another was from a faulty water pump (plus the air suspension but that did not make the car non road worthy).

Last time I took the range for a cruise the car ran very strong and the engine did sound aged but not in such a serious and bad way (still sounds gorgeous on WOT)

anyways if you really are interested take a look at the car's history with Euro Motors, only alternative for servicing and repairing Range Rovers is al Faris or Blue Motors

but anyways, i see that you are interested in Honda, so let me tell you something:

you can get a 4th gen lude for less than 800 BD, thats what i would recommend:

an H22 Type S (220 HP) + M2A4 LSD Tranny (1300 BD) including installation
a nice paint job will cost you maximum (700 BD)
a couple of teggy type R Recaro seats will cost you (300 BD) from the US+the shipment
Rims? suspension? you can do all that in less than (500) BD!

sleek look and maintaining the sleeper look at the same time:

otto I hate to say this but selling the M5 and considering a prelude is like conceding to a game you have not started

no one will ever go down like that even if they were a half-a$$ed retard (not including the person who posted those ricey hon-duhs).

like everyone else I agree the greed on our dealers has deferred us from ever considering (hell even a new G35 is not work paying 17K anymore if I can get a better specced car from the states with good mileage for less than 10K).

My suggestion is look for something that is as good of a daily driver and a street cruiser.

I'll be biased when I say this but if you find a very clean Euro V8 sedan/SUV or maybe an American/Aussie muscle (after 04 please) go for that. Sure petrol wise they might rape you a bit but then again money spent on new car installments can be spent on making the car a better daily driver (that doesn't mean modding it out tho)

honda's have alot of bad rep in Bahrain and other countries.. but that's because of the owners, not the car itself.. and I respect them for their engineering accomplishments.. when it comes to N/A 4 bangers.. no one does it better then Honda does... sometimes it's fun to have a super light high revving zingy high compression motor.. and the induction noise that goes with it..

i'm seriously considering a hot hatch as my next car.. or a convertable (mostly just the s2k tbh)

i've found a nice MK5 Golf R32, 3 doors, manual, recaro seats, low mileage, blue with the 10 spoke wheels..
my ideal golf spec. just put a supersprint exhaust on it and ur set..

I really like the hot hatch genre.. and think it's really sad that bahrain has a serious lack of following of such good cars..

our roads are getting more and more congested, parking is becoming a nightmare, owning a Autobahn highway bruiser of a car is becoming more and more pointless... and I realized that with my car...

having a small zippy car to weave and change lanes, easy to park in parking lots and malls, no blindspots etc.. is alot better now..

this is how I see it. Wait a few more years and don't change ur spending and who knows you might something brutally fun WITHOUT taking out a loan and not look lame while driving it.

Last thing anyone should do is watch their wallets just coz of a car they had to take a major loan out for.

I like your thinking. Atleast with a hatch you will have enough saved up and at the same time a great fun car to drive round the city and get great parking

BTW hatches are more fun than convertibles, especially if this hatch can get you through half the roads in manama without having to scratch anything

they have great race motors.. but I meant in a production car bro, don't think anything comes close to 120 bhp/liter.. Althought the 3S-GE beams engine from the toyota RS200 is a nice unit as well..

That's the idea.. Get a FUN enjoyable car.. Without breaking the bank… as for verts.. I dunno.. Yesterday I was driving a Mustang GT vert with the top down wind in the hair sun in the face cool breeze.. It was 3ajeeb.. For cruising and listening to the engine growl.. No B or C pillars to obstruct your view.. In the winter u ride with the top down day time and up and night.. And vice versa in the summer… in a country with no rain or snow.. (only a lot of dust and sun) it seems like a reasonable place to drive with the top down…
And if u buy the optional hardtop to use in the summer.. It's like owning a coupe car..

May I recommend a used Mini Cooper?? :D

Most of them are too girly for me.. And I hate the giant speedo in the middle.. I would buy navigation on that car just to relocate it to the steering wheel.. Unless it's a cooper S works in dark grey with grey stripes or Black on Black with raybon and blacked out chrome.. But it still maintains like a much more expensive BMW.. Which is a put off.. And defeats the original purpose of the Mini which was a peoples car for the masses.. Like the Fiat 500

I found a black dec 04 ep3

it's clean.. but it has 95,000 km's on it already (my july 00 m5 had only 120 on it)

in uae the cars rack up mileage very fast..

and it was over priced.. asking 5,500

by the time i buy the car and drive it a year or 2 it will be like 160,000+ km's

i'm trying to find something with low(er) mileage so that i can drive it a year or 2 without it hitting 6 digits..

if i could find a low mileage EP3 Great!

dicoomafia I hope you are familiar with basic economics

because if supply is high and demand is low this will create a surplus

in this case when there is a surplus of cars (i.e too many parked in the ports) this will lead to large inventories and large unsold inventories tend to lose value.

And if there is no demand at all there will be no movement of products. No movements means no money to circulate.

Basically this whole thing may be speculative and psychological. Or just an indicative signal that prices will eventually ease off

Ottoman
February 2nd, 2009, 03:24 PM
if I went outside my office window and took a picture of how many cars are parked outside unsold still in the plastic

if i find something cheaper that is still a nice car.. say a 2004-2005 Civic Type R or s2000 or something I don't mind.. saving the difference and spending it elsewhere..

as for seriousness..

I sold my M5, i only have my RX7's now..

my 2 options are..

buy a new car as a DD

fixing up and keep driving the 2 Rexy's.
