specifically from an Individual? either through ebay autotrader or a forum?
not from a dealership or a company..
if so.. how did u do it? was there any difficulties in teh transaction? etc
Did u use a RORO or a container?
did the seller arrange shipping?
did u have a 3rd party company pick it up from them and arrange for it to be shipped?
i'm specifically interested in the logistics side of things as well as the financial
please share your story..
I'm looking into bringing a car from the states since they are newer, lower mileage and cheaper then here.. not to mention wider variety..
Thanks..

I can chime in on the RORO shipping.
You Arrange with a shipping agency prior to the shipping. And handle all paperwork via fax or internet. Then you drive the car up to the port, New York or Baltimore, etc...and sign a few papers, leave the keys in the car, and thats it.
Then depending on the freight it might take from 5 weeks to 8 weeks to reach Bahrain port. Then you will be contacted, and I advise you to contact a agency here to finish all the paperwork here cause its a headache and get the car out.
I once sold a car on Autotrader and it was super easy. And I believe selling is as easy as buying. Payment made by a managers or bank check. But this is from a person that once lived in the states perspective.
If you know someone on the other side it will substantially ease up the buying car process. just my 2 cents

Yup, just bought a car on Monday. I got a quote FOB and I let my forwarder arrange shipping form there onwards.
20 Foot container FCL.
All in all, I saved 22% off retail local price

Quartine thanks for the input.. but I wont be physically in the states.. I want to buy a car from here and have it sent to me.
Nos,
so u had the owner deliver the car to the dealer? and then the dealer checked it, ok'ed it.. and then u paid the owner direct? or did u pay the dealer and they payed the guy?
did the dealership de-register and export the car for u? and u just paid them a seperate handling fee?
I foudn some potential cars in houston..
how much on top of the car should I set aside for all the other stuff?
will 1,000 bd cover shipping and fee's from houston to bahrain?
ED...
so u paid the car owner the price of the car + FOB
and then paid ur forwarder the shipping cost of brining it to Bah? do u pay the forwarder upon arrival? or in advance prior to departure?
what is the price of an FCL to Bahrain? which port are u calling from?
FCL's take the longest I assume Correct?

I paid the dealer and he arranged the shipping and transporting it to the port
It might be a tad over 1000 BD with the buyer check and all 2 Bahrain

i heard that in usa if you want to buy a benz the buyer shall sign a paper that he wont ship the car outside the states for the first year and the car had to be collected by you personally, and if you did'n comply so and took it to dealer outside usa. the vin # will be blocked and parts cant be ordered for your car and off course no warranty.
my self was trying to buy a new cls63 from states and the dealer refused to ship the car to bahrain and told me the above. :(
bloodline, sure thing its much cheaper in the states than here, in some cases you can save up to BD20000. and its more noticable in mercedes
