View Full Version : SS Coupe advice

Hey guys hope this is the right place but I need your advice on something.

I'm planning to give the car a complete exterior and interior makeover with a black/red theme but I need some constructive advice on what would make my car stand out from the crowd.

I understand there are not many SS Coupes around here in Bahrain (especially black ones)

I've decided to limit performance to simple bolt-ons such as intake and exhaust. I might consider a tune if the price/gain ratio is right.

Anyways If anyone has anything else to contribute please share and maybe I will consider it

I leave you with some pics of the car

SELL THE DAMN THING!!

Need a reason? Ask 3adool (LuminaSS_73) -- he will give you a long list of reasons to sell the car. :)

A whole valvetrain rebuild, a stall converter and a good cam is enough rez, along with a tune. Don't overdo it.

if you are familiar with the Red SS Coupe that used to belong to a member you will realize why I am keeping engine mods to a minimum

so far I have EFI Tune, Intake manifold, Throttle Body upgrade and exhaust planned. Should be fine for 350RWHP

When something is done right, it will last my dear friend.

If you are depending on this as your daily driver, then its up to you.

I am taking out my engine and its going to get a full workover at home. I just need a god damn stand which I can't find anywhere.

Get a full exhaust system from a respected brand and you are set.

OK, lets do this the right way. Strip the car down to the bone, buy CF body panels for everything, and a CF seat. Convert to manual with a T56 ofcourse, a good 4.20 in the rear, 2 T88s under the hood, and stroke it as well. One big fuel pump, injectors, and go find a good tuner for it.

advice from an ex-ss owner

keep the interior stock. if u wanna do the exterior just do the HSV style kit or just the wing cuz everything else is just yuk! a set of HSV rimz will do great too.

as for the engine, please, do not open it! just do bolt-ons like u said. exhaust, filter, tune and maybe a ratio change to 3.73. dont do anything else! ne9ee7a! :tome:

Just get HP Tuners done and you'll hold with E46 M3s.

my advice if you are keeping it as a DD, dont over do it...a sleek nice look exterior, even with the exhaust, should sound deep and nice, not too loud.

interior, you can go with a couple of recaros or sparcos as a weight reduction and also looks, but honestly i would stay with leather seats.

chip the ecu and you are done.

X2 I agree with this statement

It's better to not complicate the car
specially if it's a DD

u can always contact HSV themselves for a quotation, thats how i got mine. Or, check out ebay. i've done a quick search there and found quite a few sets of brand new OEM HSV wheels.

CAPA.com.au is also one of my favourite places. they have a wide range of accessories and modifications to choose from.

BTW does anyone know an approximate ECU gain (HP Tune) of an LS1 with K&N cone filter??

JonnybravoM3
February 26th, 2009, 10:19 AM
Actually one great piece of advice for the car, is keep it as far away as possible from National Motors. 7aram 3adool they have tortured him with their poor service and inefficiency.

Good idea to change the rims tho -- not too crazy about the black ones. Also remove the DUB sticker.

As was advised, best thing is keep it simple -- go for exhaust and x-pipe and maybe headers if you feel you need. And the HP tuners is a must. Other than that, any changes you want to make you can keep cosmetic. Maybe a nice interior finish, speaker system, etc.

HP Tune should give you a gain of around 20-30 bhp -- bas it makes a big difference.

When I raced 3adool in my ex-M3, from rolling and start I would give him around 6-7 car lengths by the 800metrs-1km mark.. After his HP Tune, the race would finish either neck to neck or with my nose being next to his side-mirrors.

My advice to rez was: take of the stickers, paint the rims into a nice dark carbon color like mine, exhuast system, sound system is already installed so nothing is missing in that moment, what do you guys think?

EDIT: one more thing it to hand it over to zex to do the detailing :bounce:

I think the wheels look perfect the way they are. Rez, just get a good exhaust system, convert it to a true dual setup if possible and hear it roar properly!

Update: while rez was away in his home country I took his car and did few things, painted the rims, calipers, front bumper and the ugly unrepaired fender that it had + waxing by the same garage which really made the paint look different!
