أثبتت الدراسات النفسية..أن المبالغة في وضع المكياج و استخدام مساحيق
التجميل قد تكون أحد مظاهرالتنفيس عن التوتر النفسي على اعتبار تصورات واهمة
أن الظهور بمظهر جمالي يعوض إحساس الإنسان بالكآبة و الضيق و الشد
العصبي...أو الاعتقاد بأن المبالغة في وضع المكياج نوع من أنواع التجديد
والتغيير في الشكل، وبالتالي كسر حدة الرتابة والروتين الباعثين على الملل،
الذي يعد من أهم أسباب الاكتئاب، وغالبا ما يكون ذلك في الشخصية الهستيرية ،
التي تتميز بحب الظهور، والتمركز حول الذات، والنرجسية و السطحية في التعبير
عن النفس أو في التعامل مع الناس، ويكون لديها الرغبة أيضا في الاعتماد على
الآخرين...وهي شخصية فيها الكثير من الزيف والخداع وحب جذب الأنظار إليها.
ولذا فإن الاهتمام بوضع المكياج أو المبالغة فيه هو نوع من أنواع التعويض،
وتغيير الملامح لتغطية حالة نفسية معينة، أو التأثير على الآخرين، والظهور
بمظهر آخر يخفي الواقع
