Hey everyone,
I would just like to get some of your opinions regarding which car to get.
I've got a budget of around BD 16,000 - BD 18,000. I know that there are endless options out there. I'm still not sure if I should get an okay new car or a better second hand car.
I'm also wondering if I should get something more performance oriented or something a bit more luxurious. Something modifiable or leave it stock. The only thing I know is that I'm not too keen on bigger cars such as 4x4s, and I'd rather avoid a strict 2 seater.
I know, I'm making this really hard, but I'd like to get some of your opinions so I can hopefully make a good decision in the end.
Thanks guys :up2:

for 16k, i would buy an Evo X.
4 door, reliable, quick enough as stock, modifiable if you want to play around later.
plus u get a 3 yr warranty.

Cool thats a good choice.
I really hope this doesn't offend all the evo owners of the forum, but is the interior of the new evo, well there's no other way to say it, as lancerish as the previous models?
And how is it as a daily driver?
Kayman
November 4th, 2009, 05:29 PM
Nope, the interior is much more refined than the previous evo's, i mean it's not lexus but u get the point.
and yes it's a daily driver, especially if you take the SST version (dual clutch automated manual) and they will also give you a power upgrade for free if you want (exhaust, chip, intake).
My advice is go for a SST Evo X if you want it as a daily driver.
It's automatic when you want it to be and manual when you wanna play around, 3 modes normal, sport, sportplus.
Keyless, Dynamic xenons, Brembo brakes, 18 inch BBS rims, Rockford sound system, recaro's.

plus you can always negotiate on the price since the 2010s are right around the corner.

Another option you have is the G37 sedan. Priced at 16k and that car is sweeeeeet, something less sporty and more luxurious than the evo. Check it out bro.

Kayman: I should look into the G37s, cause I remember test driving the G35 sedan, and i was shocked at how much power the V6 produced. Any idea how much the coupe costs? and are we ever gonna get the convertible?
Unbreakable: I was thinking about a Genesis 2.0 and slapping on a bigger turbo (hard to resist the sound of a blow off valve). I guess i would have a hard time sleeping knowing that I spent my money on a hyundai though (forgive me i'm old fashioned, i know how much better the new Genesis is, but its still a hyundai). Any idea how much the 2.0 costs? And who could help me install a bigger turbo?
Thanks guys...

In response to the "its just a hyundai comment", let’s look at what hyundai has done with the Genesis Sedan.
For starters the 4.6L V8 is the most efficient naturally aspirated V8 available in any car priced under 20K! The Genesis Sedan has a more rigid frame, quieter ride, a better braking system and a more advanced suspension than the 5 series BMW and E class Mercedes, far out classing the Altima based Maxima and Infiniti M series. So by “its still a Hyundai”, you mean its still a product of, the worlds leading engineers, an almost limitless pre-production budget, and four years of stringent modeling, testing, reconfiguration and post production testing, your right its still just a Hyundai. Considering that Hyundai has outsold Honda and Nissan world wide for three years running, and was one of only two auto-manufacturers to have a gaining first quarter in the US this year, maybe this “just Hyundai” car has more potential than you give it credit for! Oh and lets not forget ZF is a pretty good name in transmissions!! my 2 fils

I'd rule out a G37 sedan because it will eclipse your budget. The Evo X is a more popular choice since ur a mitsu dude. The Genesis is a monster 4 cylinder bang for buck pack of goodness.

G37 Sedan no doubt, 16500B.D and yes it has a 7 speed tranny .. the 24k version ur talking about unbreakable is the coupe G37s
I'd hit the G37 sedan no doubts on that and if I wanna go sporty i'd take the genesis coupe v6 for 10k rather taking a 2.0 turbo for 9.5k

Wow i think I might have struck a nerve with the hyundai comment
I blame it on my arab mentality hehe. But its good to see that one of these auto companies is actually progressing and improving its products rather than taking some steps back. And I do agree with you the Genesis sedan is a step in the right direction for Hyundai. And I've seen some good things online about the Genesis coupe. Hell, the SEMA show is littered with them. In its defense I never test drove one so I have no idea what its capable of. Its an option worth considering.
I'm sure many of you are gonna disagree with me, but sadly, in this part of the world, a car is not only a means of transportation, its also a status symbol. I know most of you are going to say "you should be getting a car for yourself and not to show off to others", but deep down i know some of you would agree. At the end of the day, there's a difference between knowing that the key in your pocket says Hyundai or BMW or Porsche. Also you know the feeling that you get knowing that your car came out of Ulsan in South Korea vs. Bavaria or Stuttgart (oh God bless Stuttgart).

Wow great find! Didn't know that a 996TT would be in my price range :beat2:
The question is, is it gonna spend most of its life in the garage getting fixed?
What about if say i want to take it out on a track day. Would I have to service and fix the hell out of it after every time i get a bit aggressive with it?
(I heard that the new GT-Rs need a tranny fluid change and brake service after every track day which could cost $2,000- $5,000 every time).

Thanks for your input OBBI
The reason why i'm asking the people on this forum is because i'm currently not in bahrain, and i haven't been there for a long time, so i'm a little out of touch on what's available and what deals are good ones. everyone has given me their worthy advice, and it has helped me get a better idea of what the car market in bahrain is currently like.
So thanks to everyone who made a recommendation and commented :thanks:

here are your choices which I recommend
-VW Passat R36 (18K but still one hell of a car)
-Chevy Lumina SS or CR8 (HSV CR8 over there)
-Hyundai Genesis Sedan V8 (only coz its a V8)
-Infiniti G37 Sedan
-Toyota Aurion Grande (fully loaded)
-2010 Chevy Camaro SS
-Cadillac CTS 3.6DI
-2010 VW Golf GTI
-VW Scirocco
and obviously from my biased point of view my choice would be any aussie or american iron V8
Those are in terms of new cars I can't tell you about used cars coz its you and your luck as they say
BTW dude if yer still around that bumhole of a city I got a PM to send ya. I'm looking for certain parts for my Monaro maybe you can find at a cheaper price.
cheers
