Alright, here is the deal.
I decided that today December 1st, 2009. will be my last day as a smoker, its the worst thing anyone can do to their body and I want to live for a long time. since I spend so much time on this forum and I know for a fact there are too may guys who smoke on here, I thought we might be able to form some kid of a support group and help each other.
a couple of years ago my father had heart surgery due to a log life of smoking only 3 days after my grandfather passed away fighting cancer, at the time I decided to stop smoking and successfully did for 6 moths, but here I am smoking again, I always blamed it on other factors but not on me, so now its time to take it more seriously and do it right, so as of tomorrow I will stop smoking and drinking for good.
who's with me?

Well, smoking is the worse habit and one that's hard to shake off...
Ive quit successfully for a year and on vacation out with the boys knocking down a few beers it had one and it kicked it off again.
Good luck ED and a small suggestion would be to stash sunflower seeds in your pocket for when you get the urge...

Here is my update for today, ZERO SMOKING. today was really a challenge, every friday its big lunch at the parents place and after which I usually have a smoke with the old man, you know set outside in the back yard, some tea and a nice smoke, good times with old man. but it was just tea for me today.
in the evening I was at BIC organizing the AutoX with the rest of the CRC crew. for some reason, almost everyone in the motorports scene is a smoker, and I had to be around cigarettes and people smoking all afternoon and evening, but that was ok as well.
I had in total 3 peices of the 4mg gum, and around 4-5 cups of tea, I had food but nothing more than what I would usually have, I feel it was less. and I'm still insomniac.

Champix costs about USD 350 for 3 months course, and its worth every cent of it. if anyone is serious about quitting, they should definitely give it a try. i had tried cold turkey, nicotine patches, chewies, DVDs, hypnotherapy, and a book that claimed, it will make u quit.
Nicotine patches, and chewies never work, because its nicotine replacement technique, which is fundamentally flawed, cuz u quit cigerattes, but u still take nicotine. It can never work, just a money making scam for the manufacturers. The other ways do work, but for short periods, and you keep thinking about smokes, and that u r quitting.
When my doctor gave me champix, he told me , take 2 pills a day, morning and evening, and keep smoking for now, but fix a day to quit, between 10th and 15th day of starting champix. With in a week, i was smoking a lot less, cuz i didnt feel like it, and when i did, i didnt get any satisfaction from it, cuz it works on the nicotine receptors in the brain. I quit 2 weeks after starting the pill, and never looked back. It is the best, and it works.

December 8th, 2009, 12:20 PM
The immediate effects of smoking cessation include:
Within 20 minutes blood pressure returns to its normal level
After 8 hours oxygen levels return to normal
After 24 hours carbon monoxide levels in the lungs return to those of a non-smoker and the mucus begins to clear
After 48 hours nicotine leaves the body and taste buds are improved
After 72 hours breathing becomes easier
After 2–12 weeks, circulation improves
After 5 years, the risk of heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker
After 10 years, the risk of lung cancer is almost the same as a non-smoker.
out of experience i would say that the hardest part is the first week, after that it keeps getting easier and easier, i did temporarily stop for a few times ranging from 3 days- a month... i know a number of people who only stopped it completely due to a heavy illness or an operation related to the terrible habit, so u could either quit by urself -like what ur trying to accomplish right now- or wait till it hits u..only advice that i feel would be helpful is to not associate the celebratory habit of lighting a one every time you get outta work or have a big meal or at airports or whatever, good luck with it!
