The M5 was always faster car than the AMG E class, the Merc tried to beat the E39 my with a supercharged 5.5 V8 while the M5 is 5.0 NA, & remember all tests in the magazines showed that the current M5 is still a better car than the new E55 (beside the speed). REMEMBER "M transmision" means MEN transmision. So don't think that BMW is worried about the AMG 6.5 supercharged Merc. Trust me.

yousee johnny, thats where the disadvantage is, at higher speeds.. heavier cars have less drag coefficience, and hence with a lower centre of gravity (which is essential for cabrios ) the mid range speed lags! This is done for safety purposes and thats why they try to compensate with the additional HP's. The additional HP's are only for acceleration reasons, further up the rev range, the SL lags in torque!
