get an iphone with Batelco Data package, you will never need a laptop to browse at all. however, if your heart is set on laptop and a 3G dongle I would go with Batelco, it sucks less than zain.

i heard batelco's good, but zain offers a better speed and bigger threshold?
Otto, u using viva? did u use any of the other 2?
and what's viva's price/package?

so far viva is bloody fast i've seen 600+ kbps torrent speed
and done a speed test at the same time and still got 3.5mbps showing
and can still use youtube without waiting for it to buffer
ego was garbage last I used it very slow to connect, and slow DL speeds etc..
o net is better than ego. but no where near viva
viva internet is 21mbps and is also unlimited bandwidth..
it will bea cheaper then the competition
at the moment they were giving free connections with the phone numbers.. so I don't know what the final pricing will be...
you'll find out after 2morrow

i'm using viva and highly recommend it... lightening fast + unlimited downloads.
I paid 50bd for a number and I got the device for free + 4 months to use it free.

You wont need a laptop if you have an Iphone? Sorry man but you will, if you want something that will replace a laptop then its N900.
It supports everything!
Simple example: Iphone doesnt support java games available on Facebook while the N900 does!

Adool does windows comes with flash ? u have to install it right ? i did on my ipod a,d it works
i wanted to recommend viva but its getting slower and slower everyday , it disconnects every now and then for no reason ,they say its the crappy huawei device thats the problem
i say go for it , u'll end up paying 80bd for 4 monthes unlimited then if u dont like cancel it
but waiting this week for official anocmt. would be better i guess because the staff there they dont know anything about the contracts or packages all they say is 'WE HAVE THE FASTEST INTERNET IN THE ISLAND'
so , just wait this week , but so far from my experience i think menatelecom's mykey is the best usb dongle available now but it's wimax not 3g (a7san)

Viva prices are going to be very very close to any of its compatitors in mobile rental packages, like a BD in each so I dunno what will they offer for the internet .. I never seen anyone who experienced 21MBPS yet though

no way it's gonna be in MBs.. that's a marketing strategy every telecom co. uses, since most of the public don't know what it refers to.

well i say do what Eyad said and get the 34BD batelco package 2000 free minutes and iirc a 4GB data package which is more than enough for mobile browsing IMO.
or another solution is if you are on batelco.. you can get the thunaii card with 1 GSM number and the second is an Onet number.. and use your phone menu to select between the two.
this is a more cumbersome solution but slightly cheaper i.e its 6+ bd for a regular line and 14 bd for 4 GB data - although i'd strongly recommend the 34BD solution as they have a pretty cool offer going on for this package.

guys, i need a dongle on the fly.. i don't need iphone or fukphone or assphone.. i need an internet connection on the go. i got enough phones to carry, and i need to use my laptop for this stuff.
thanks for the suggestions.. i'll wait for Viva's prices and decide if it suites my budget or not.

umm not sure about assphones but u can use most phones as the dongle by internet sharing.. just hook it up to your laptop and your set to go.. especially since you have so many things to carry anyway.
and btw if the STC packages are any indication.. VIVA wont be anymore competitive than the others!

i still prefer to use a dongle away from my mobile phone.. you know the disadvantages, don't you?
and about VIVA being competitive, well, it might offer a better speed/threshold than the rest, and charge as much as they do. so, let's wait and see.

Max, you are an IT guy! shame on you, you dont expect a USB modem to fly, there is too much latency :P
BTW, I work at viva, and ignore Thamoor, prices are not released yet! hell, NOT set yet!
as for the guys complaining about not getting the full speed of the USB modem, thats because a tower is shared by tons of other users!
it is like what Mena telecom offers, except they give you a limited download rate, while Viva's download rate is users dependent
but still keep latency in your head
still there was not thresh hold set yet, so you can bang the hell of their modem
As for saydo, go to any branch and get your Modem changed.

so, we finally know the price now..
BD30 a month with unlimited threshold. actually it's limited, but just the way they describe it. after 60GB of download, the speed will be reduced to 512kbps.. LOL.
ok, so i have BD14, BD13 and BD30.
i think i'll go with the cheapest.

which one is the cheapest ? Batelco or Zain ? i'd go for Batelco coz i don't get 3G signal with zain in a lot of important places but it's okay with batelco

went with the O-net 7.5mbps device with 4gb threshold, and most of the time i get 7.5mbps connection which is really fast.. sometimes it degrades to 3.6mbps, but it's still fine to browse and live stream.. with 7.5mbps connection, i can live stream a 10mins vid on youtube without pauses.
sometimes (occurs on different places), you're connected on 7.5 and while browsing the connection degrades to 386kbps, which is really slow and it would look like you're disconnected (but you still can browse light websites with less images). when this happens, i usually disconnect/reconnect and i'm back on 7.5... sometimes dis/recon doesn't solve the issue because the area i'm in isn't really open.
happy with the device/connection so far.. can't really complain on a data sim connection, cuz they can't be reliable 100% all the time.
