need some advice here as im seriously thinking about ordering this phone, price is about 250BD for an unlocked device on Amazon. this will be my first Android phone so, i dont want to start an Android vs. iPhone war here but should i go Android or check out the iPhone 4s? and what about the Galaxy S2 in comparison to the Nexus?
any help will be appreciated.

big droid nerd here..
hardware wise the nexus is "overall" a better phone than the s2.. but not by much...
Nexus: NFC (useless in bahrain) bigger screen 4.65" vs 4.3" and higher resolution (720p), Same dual proc but better GPU. but WORSE camera...
the biggest advantage it has is that it shipped with ICS (ice cream sandwich) which is the latest flavor of the OS and is a huge improvement over Gingerbread..
BUT the S2 and note are going to be getting ICS first quarter 2012... so the the gap is closing..
nexus is better.. but If i had the choice to do it again.. i would of bought my S2 on a contract rather than paying cash for it.. it actually comes out much cheaper in the end..
but if money is no object.. then get the nexus.. because it "the best"
as for the apple debate.. ppl don't even bother comparing it the nexus.. they compare it to the S1/S2... nexus is too far ahead..

I own a galaxy nexus and used to own a galaxy s2 ... if you can wait for 4 months then the S3 is out ..
However if you wanted one of those now then i suggest the S2 for you:
1. Better suited for new droid users
2. much better camera
3. Has DLNA, free office, and other nice free softwares the comes with Samsung UI
4. more storage space (SD CARD)
5. More applications compatibility (still lots of apps not compatible with Galaxy nexus ICS)
If you are a power droid user then the Galaxy Nexus is the phone to get... (oh yeah it's browser puts every other browser of phones and tablets into shame as its so fast and never crashed once and plays flash really well.. plus with its HD display you can see small text well so you don't have to zoom in alot)

well, i ordered the Nexus today, after reading so many reviews and asking alot of android users, i took the plunge and paid 245 for it.. should be here in a weeks time.
and yeah i understand what u mean by better suited for new droid users, but its no rocket science.. theres nothing a good 2 weeks cant get u used to.
anyone know how much theyll be sold for in Bahrain?

The nexus s took ages to reach bahrain and i think this will be the same.. btw you will need almost a week of use to get the most out of its battery .. you will notice quick battery drain at first but will go away quick enough :)

yup i've been running it for a few days now.. its not perfect.. but it's pretty good and still quite usable... considering it was a leaked copy I'm not suprised, i was expecting some minor issues

Ottoman, yeah heard its pretty good for a leaked copy that is under development.. hope the final release gets an updated version of touchwiz tho .. TW4 looks outdating when comparing to vanilla ICS.
VIPER you dont need to root in order to get paid apps for free like installous on iphone :P

Rooting in general, I have a galaxy s2 and galaxy note, still hearing the word rooting confuses me cause I got everything (consoles emulators, custom keyboards, downloading free paid apps :p etc...) which I couldnt get on the iphone without the need to jailbreak so whats the big deal about rooting?
Lol thnx ghareeb ildar I already know that 4shared ftw but dont know why its not working these days :D
Maybe they caught us?

Rooting comes from the term root
which is a linux thing..
basically to have admin access on linux u have to login as root.. which is the super User..
as u know Droid is based on linux and by default root access is disabled in the phones so n00bs don't break them..
some applications such as titanium backup require root access inorder to function correctly (Read/Write permissions)
as well as some other customization stuff..
so "rooting" the phone means ur enabling root access on the device..

Ottoman, the only reason why i root is to enable ownhere google map to work (it enables google nav in any unsupported countries like bahrain and uae which is very useful considering howmuch roads change there).. you should try it ... go to xda forum and search for ownhere :)

but i'll wait for a more stable ICS before I start rooting it and such

Samoi: initial reviews of the nexus?
sorry im a bit late,
well, since its my first android phone.. it took some while to get used to, but i think i got the hang of it in a couple of days. ive compared it to the GS2 and heres what ive found, let start with the pro's..the display on the Nexus is far more superior, in terms of resolution and in size, brightness, glare and depth.. ive hada couple of iPhone owners try the phone out as well and they were blown away by the screen's clarity and resolution. Samsung have gone out of their way and built in a slight curve to the screen, something ive really started to appreciate, especially when using the phone in direct sunlight.
as for the ne eoperating system (Ice Cream Sandwich) well.. as i said, its my first android phone so, i didnt know what to expect.. having nothing to compare it to but iOS, ICS is alot more fluid, looks a million times better and is a very friendly operating system, the whole device just feels "alive" with the widgets constantly moving, live background, cosntant feeds from twitter and RSS's on the home screen.. u feel very well..... connected!but that comes at the cost of weak battery life, dont know if its a weak battery or if its just an over-excited owner that cant let go of the phone.
I was a bit weary of the button-less design but all ive gotta say is.. Bravo Samsung, the buttons are always there when u need them, they sometimes feel like theyre not a part of the display rather.. a part of the hardware, but.. they dissappear when u dont need them like when ur watching a fullscreen video.. very neat, can see this migrating to iPhone's and other smartphones in the future.
as for the small new features like face recognition.. works like a charm, literaly takes half a second to recognize my face.. and it will recognize you 98% of the time uncless ur face is skewed to the side or in the case of low lighting, where it'll revert to another security lock of you choice.. PIN, Pattern etc. the new notification bar is very easy to use, touch screen is very smooth and havent had any complaints so far.
as for the cons.. well, i kinda have to say there arent many.. but, the device is kinda big, could have been smaller. Battery life isnt something id go boasting about and the camera is only 5MP, clear.. but nothing that would knock your socks off!
overall, im loving the device.. i was always a hardcore mac user and fanboy.. Macbook, iPod Nano, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1 and 2, iPhone 2G and 3Gs so it was pretty hard for me and i thought im gonna have to convince myself to get used to this whole Android thing.. but its just all the restrictions that Apple put on u that make you start to look for greener pastures.. and let me tell you this.... **** the Apple, This little Green Robot will walk ALL over it!
