Nissan previews new Pathfinder SUV at the Paris motor show
By MARTON PETTENDY 6 September 2004
DESPITE having been shown at this year’s Detroit motor show, Nissan has confirmed the new European-spec Pathfinder to be revealed at this month's Paris motor show will be largely what we see Down Under by mid-2005.
Due on sale in Europe in March next year, the production Pathfinder is a subtle development of the Dunehawk showcar displayed at the Frankfurt motor show last year.
Comprising seating for seven in three rows – with the rear two folding flat – the new Pathfinder has class-leading luggage space, separately opening rear glass and up to 64 different seating configurations.
Independent double wishbone suspension at both ends should continue the current Pathie’s reputation for well-mannered road handling, while X-Trail’s All-Mode transmission is claimed to further its off-road ability.
A new 2.5-litre YD-series four-cylinder turbo-diesel with second generation common-rail technology, a new balancer system and class-leading power and torque outputs may be available in Australia, where a 3.0-litre petrol V6 will be the top-seller.
The new Pathfinder will also sport an RX330-style rear-view parking camera and a keyless locking and starting system dubbed Intelligent Key.
Xenon headlights, premium audio, voice recognition satellite navigation, leather trim and dual-zone climate control will also be available in Europe.
