Scorpions in Gulf debut
GERMANY'S most successful hard rock export, The Scorpions, will perform live for the first time in the Gulf at the Dubai Country Club on October 6.
The legendary band will give a two-hour performance, featuring major hits as well as some new tracks from its 20th album, Unbreakable.
Highlights from the group career, which spans over 35 years, include Wind of Change, Holiday, Rock You Like a Hurricane and Send Me An Angel.
The current line-up includes "classic" members vocalist Klaus Meine, guitarist Rudolf Schenker and lead guitarist Matthias Jabs.
"With the new album we've returned to what the Scorpions are really all about, hand-made rock music. Pick up the instruments, plug them in and play," said Jabs.
"The band is together in one room for the basic tracks, which are back to the roots but in the contemporary rock sound of 2004. At the same time we've reshaped our live set with the new songs."
Jabs said that The Scorpions' aim was to make music that was enduring.
"Music, above all, should stand the test of a live concert, in full exposure of the spotlights where you can't hide anything," he said.
The band was formed in 1965 as a result of the influence of American GIs living in Germany, as well as the rock groups of the time including The Beatles and The Yardbirds.
The Scorpions released their debut album Lonesome Crow in 1972, which set them on their path to international fame and allowed them to tour as a supporting band for noted acts such as Rory Gallagher and Uriah Heap.
Other classic albums which followed include Lovedrive, Blackout and Love at First Sting. Tickets at BD16.5 are available through event organisers Mirage Promotions on 17715277 or online at www.itptickets.com
