Dubai: A piece of Rod the Mod is going on sale: a special edition Ferrari that is up for grabs for a cool Dh1.9 million.
The limited edition F50 supercar - in Ferrari's trademark colour red - was owned by British rocker Rod Stewart and driven by him on the roads around his English home.
"This really is a racing car with extra bodywork to make it legal for the roads. It's an engine on wheels," said David Hunt, a salesman at House of Cars on Shaikh Zayed Road, where the Italian-built speed machine is on display.
Stewart bought the car in 1997 and two years ago sold it to Craig Johnson, co-owner of House of Cars, who is selling it because he now spends most of his time in England. The car was originally registered at Stewart's address in Epping in Essex.
"This is not the type of car you sell every day, but we will find a buyer and we've had interest from around the world, including Hong Kong. I think Japan is a likely market because over there they love their toys and the Germans are into buying cars as investments."
Just 349 Ferrari F50s were made - Stewart's former car is number 255 - but the lucky few who get their hands on them are rewarded with breathtaking performance. The model can hit 100kph in a mere 3.9 seconds and go on to a top speed of 320kph thanks to its 4.7-litre V12 engine.
Despite being seven years old, Stewart's former motor - in keeping with a supercar's main role as a plaything rather than a day-to-day runabout - has covered a mere 4,800km.
Just to prove to any doubters that the car really did belong to Stewart, the House of Cars showed Gulf News a copy of the warranty from the UK dealership, Maranello Concessionaires, on which the name "Rod Stewart" is written.
Anyone got 1.9 million UAE dirhams laying idle....??? :feedback:
