Red Bull buy Jaguar Racing
Red Bull Racing set for 2005
Red Bull Racing takes over Jaguar Racing
Ford Motor Company and Red Bull, the world leading energy drink concern, are jointly announcing today that Red Bull has purchased Jaguar Racing. The new team will be called Red Bull Racing.
"I am really pleased that Red Bull has bought Jaguar Racing. Since we made the announcement to sell our F1 businesses in September we have received outstanding support from the management and employees at Jaguar Racing and we have worked very hard to secure a sale to a reputable buyer," said Richard Parry-Jones, Group Vice President – Global Product Development and Chief Technical Officer, Ford Motor Company. "Red Bull is a very successful business and has been extensively involved in F1 and global motorsport for over a decade. I am very pleased to announce this outcome."
"Our move to fully owning a Formula One race team makes good business sense for Red Bull," said Dietrich Mateschitz, founder and CEO of Red Bull. "Add to this the opportunity of being directly involved in a sport and activity from which I derive great personal pleasure, then it is easy to understand how delighted I am to have made this purchase. Not only does the ownership of this team represent the high point of our involvement in motor racing, it is also the logical and final step in the process we started with the Red Bull Junior programme, where we identify, advise and promote young talent through the different formula from Karting to the very pinnacle – Formula One."
"Wow! Can you imagine a better outcome for our Team at Milton Keynes?" said Tony Purnell, who has been confirmed as the Team Principal of the new team. "I’ve got to know the folks at Red Bull well over the last year, first as a sponsor and now as our owner. High energy, high motivation, high commitment – they have it all. Dave Pitchforth and the Team have won many admirers over the last two years, and their hard work has earned them this fabulous opportunity. The months of uncertainty are over and this news is terrific!"
As a result of the successful sale today of Jaguar Racing, the team will compete in the 2005 under Red Bull ownership with Cosworth engines in 2005.
Red Bull is the world leader in energy drinks with an estimated 70% market share, and with global sales exceeding €1.6B. The company employs 1,850 staff, of which 200 work at Red Bull Headquarters in Fuschl am See near Salzburg, Austria. Red Bull is an energy drink made for moments of increased physical and mental stress and improves endurance, alertness, concentration and reaction speed.
Though Ford Motor Company is exiting F1, the Company remains committed to top level global motorsport – and to fostering grassroots motorsport, too. Earlier this month, Ford confirmed a new four-year partnership with M-Sport, based in Cumbria in the UK to compete in the World Rally Championship and also announced participation in the new World Touring Car Championship as well on- going support for Formula Ford. Two weeks ago, Aston Martin unveiled the DBR9 that will return the marque to Le Mans in 2005 and in selected GT1 events. In the US, Ford is an active participant in a range of motorsport series, including: NASCAR and Champ Car as well as Jaguar who dominate the Trans Am series.
"Today marks the passing of an era. After over thirty-five years in the sport, deciding to exit F1 was a very tough decision for us to make," said Richard Parry-Jones. "During that time we have experienced the highs and lows of the sport but we have also left a legacy of victories and championships won by some of the most famous drivers and teams in the sport's history. This success would not have been possible without the contribution of our employees, partners, drivers, sponsors and of course the fans. I would like to thank them all, and am reassured that we have sold our F1 businesses to new owners who have long histories in the sport and want to take these great companies forward."
"Having taken the decision to exit our aim has been to try and secure the best F1 future for the team, our employees and minimise the fallout in the sport. Everyone has worked hard to achieve that goal, and in this respect I am pleased that the Jaguar Racing team will be taken forward by Red Bull," Parry-Jones concluded.

Kalkhoven and Forsythe buy Cosworth
Champ Car owners take over Cosworth
Kalkhoven and Forsythe take over Cosworth
Ford Motor Company and Cosworth are jointly announcing today that Cosworth has been purchased by Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe, co-owners of the Champ Car World Series and heads of the PKV and Forsythe Championship Racing Champ Car teams, respectively.
"I am delighted that Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe have bought Cosworth. Since we made the announcement to sell our F1 businesses in September we have received tremendous support from the management and employees at Cosworth and we have worked very hard to secure a sale to a reputable buyer," said Richard Parry-Jones, Group Vice President – Global Product Development and Chief Technical Officer, Ford Motor Company. "Kevin and Gerry are very successful businessmen, have a long history in the sport and a clear vision for how they wish to take Cosworth forward. I am pleased to announce this outcome."
"Cosworth has a truly wonderful heritage of engineering that we have great respect for," said Kevin Kalkhoven, the new co-owner of Cosworth. "We want not only to continue on from that great tradition but also move into the future with new projects and new ideas. There are many new markets we want to develop. For example, the company has been doing a lot of work on new technology marine engines, which should be very appropriate in the coming years. I believe there’s a big opportunity in that area."
Gerry Forsythe added: "Broadly, we’re looking at the whole area of engine development, but also in new markets, such as supplying kits to the emerging tuner car market. We also intend to continue working with automotive manufacturers around the world on an even more expansive basis than Cosworth has in the past."
Separately today, Ford announced the sale of Jaguar Racing to Red Bull. As part of the deal the new Red Bull F1 team will continue to use Cosworth engines next year. This announcement, together with the news that Minardi will also be using Cosworth engines in 2005, helps underpin Cosworth’s long and ongoing role as an F1 engine supplier. "We are strongly committed to continuing the great F1 tradition at Cosworth and take that very successful heritage into the future," stated Kevin Kalkhoven, "and we want to extend Cosworth’s four-decade old tradition of building performance engines for the American racing market."
Gerry Forsythe is the co-owner of Cosworth
An additional reason for Kalkhoven and Forsythe’s purchase of Cosworth is to ensure control of the development and costs of engines for Champ Car’s ladder series. "As we go forward, Cosworth will be a developer of affordable engines for the Champ Car ladder series," Forsythe said.
Commenting on the news, Cosworth Managing Director Tim Routsis said: "This is wonderful news for Cosworth. We have an excellent relationship with Kevin and Gerry built up over time through our involvement in North American motorsport. Being acquired by people of their knowledge, resource, experience and passion is a rare opportunity to not only strengthen and expand our existing position in world-wide motor sport, but also to lead Cosworth into new markets that will provide long-term stability and a foundation for future growth."
"The high regard in which Kevin and Gerry hold the Company, its people, brand and products has been demonstrated today in the most convincing manner possible," stated Routsis.
Richard Parry-Jones concluded: "Today marks the passing of an era. After competing for over thirty-five years in the sport in partnership with Cosworth, deciding to exit F1 was a very tough decision for us to make. During that time, the Ford-Cosworth relationship has experienced the highs and lows of the sport, but we have also left a rich legacy of victories and championships won by some of the most famous drivers and teams in motorsports history."
"This success would not have been possible without the contribution of our employees, partners, drivers, sponsors and of course the fans. I would like to thank them all, and am reassured that this famous racing name will go forward under the stewardship of Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerry Forsythe. We look forward to a continuing relationship with Cosworth," said Parry-Jones.

Klien and Liuzzi in the frame
Red Bull Racing line up race drivers
Klien hopes to run with Red Bull Racing in '05
Red Bull Racing has no shortage of potential drivers keen to join the team in 2005. Red Bull has run the Red Bull Driver Search for some time and already provides sponsorship to racers Christian Klien, Champ Car racer AJ Allmendinger, Formula 3000 Champion Tonio Liuzzi, Formula Renault racer Scott Speed and Formula BMW driver Sebastian Vettel.
Klien completed the 2004 season with Jaguar Racing and is a firm favourite to remain with the newly named squad. Tonio Liuzzi was a hot favourite to join Sauber due to their Red Bull backing, but the Swiss team signed Jacques Villeneuve to partner Felipe Massa. Liuzzi is now seeking a ride at Red Bull Racing.
With ten teams all but certain to race in 2005, talk of the front- running teams running a third car can now be placed to one side. With Jordan running Toyota engines and Red Bell Racing running Cosworth engines in 2005, the engine crisis seems to have past.

Coulthard in frame at Red Bull?
Red Bull Racing also looking to the US?
DC has the experience...
David Coulthard is said to be under consideration for a seat at Red Bull Racing in 2005. The Scotsman nine-year stint with McLaren Mercedes ended following the season finale at Interlagos and now Coulthard is seeking a ride to remain in Formula One.
Coulthard had agreed terms to race with Jaguar Racing in 2005, but that was before Ford announced that they were withdrawing from the series and before Red Bull took over the team. However, Coulthard faces a strong challenge for the seat with Anthony Davidson, Nick Heidfeld chasing a race deal. In addition, Red Bull backed drivers such as Christian Klien and Tonio Liuzzi are hoping to race for the team. Klien is waiting to hear if he will be testing with the team later this month.
Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz previously held a majority stake in Sauber but no longer is involved in the Swiss-outfit. Mateschitz also looked at the feasibility of purchasing Arrows prior to its closure and setting up Red Bull All America Team. The idea was never realised, but the United States remains a huge market for Red Bull.
The drinks company also runs the Red Bull Driver Search programme, which has a ‘long-term goal to have a steady group of three to six American drivers racing in Europe, groomed to break into Formula One and compete for the Championship.’ AJ Allmendinger is the current Champ Car Rookie of the Year, having secured two podium positions in his first year in the series with RuSport. Allmendinger enjoys backing from Red Bull.
Tony Purnell has however gone on record as saying he is looking at both experienced racers and fresh talent.
