    Stig's cousin...The Turkish Stig

well as u know 2 big boxes arrived from STG yesterday...

thought I'd break in my new leathers at the track today..

took the 848 for a spin to see if i want to switch to the super bikes or stick with the monster...

I also got a 2nd astars jacket, compression shorts, psycle skins, t shirts, ball cap, chin curtain, visor and some other little stuff

all that's left to complete my setup , is a pair of knox handroid gloves.. but those aren't released till sometime in march..

    it looks great on u..

as for the ppl asking about the 848, heres my mini review.. its a great bike, seating position aint as bad as ppl say it is.. great power delivery all around the RPM range, but i think the forks need some adjusting.. the nose didnt feel so planted on the ground, i mean.. taking it fast into corners was abit scary due to the wobbly front.. overall, its a great bike and ive made up my mind.. im switiching to a bigger duke.. either the 848 or the 1098 sometime soon.

the suit and boots are new.. the gloves I've had for some time...

the gloves were pretty tight and restrive at first.. getting my hand through the wrist at first was a challenge.. because it tapered down quite a bit...
but breaking them in for a couple weeks helped alot

i'm just watiing for the handroids to come out.. they'll be BG

    the suit:

first off.. the pyscle skins were TOTALLY worth it.. makes a huge diff...
upper body fits quite well even before break in..

the legs are tight tho... mostly in the theigh hamstring area..

walking in it is fine.. but when I mount the bike and try to put my legs on the pegs I can feel the leather resisting..
but its new so 3adi... and i'm used to having jackets on from the beginning.. but this is the first time I ride with leather pants.. so obviously I wont have the mobility of jeans...

if i'm standing still walking around too long.. it gets HOOOTT... i was sweating quite a bit...

but once I got moving at highway speeds it was much better..went the vents could move some air

and the race hump actually works.. I could feel it scooping air and blowing it down onto my back...when I was tucked in

848 is alright... not as vicious as the liter motor on mine.. the torque difference is obvious... I don't feel like the front end will come up as easy..

I couldn't really test the handling as the suspension was all wrong.. and the front tire was understeering BADLY.. i had an anus puckering moment in the first turn i took with any sort of speed...

it is quick.. but decievingly so.. there's no drama.. when I pin the throttle in the higher gears.. the power is very linear.. it doesn't Surge forward... I don't feel the world streaking.. and there's no sensation of when it will hit the limiter...

on my motor.. as the rpm climbs the power builds.. and when u hit 8,500-9 theres a 2nd kick almost like Vtec.. and u feel like the world is streaking passed u...

riding position of course isn't made for DDing.. I feel like I have to keep scooting back on the seat and have to make a conscious effort to keep the weight off my wrists to stop cramping up...

the bike needs tank grips for sure as my legs didn't have much to hold onto...

it's also very weird for me to turn the steering wheel and have the fairings stay stationary.. i.e. Can't judge where the front wheel is..

some things are just Sports bike vs naked bike differences naturally and not 848 specific..

it's still a very nice bike..

but personally I would buy a used 1098 over a new 848 myself...

but that pearl white is a beautiful color..

im currently facing the very same dilemma.. yet a bit different,

a new 2007 1098 and a new 2009 848 will cost me the same.. the 1098 is in yellow, the 848 is in red.

ive been reading alot on the forums and alot of the 848 owners are actually ex-999 owners and they say the 848 runs circles around the 999, it doesnt feel as fast due to the reduced torque with the lower bore motors, i guess Ducati is going a bit too japanese with the 8484/1098/1198 models.. as for the reasons pushing me towards the 109, well.. thats obvious.. its a 1098, the power difference is 23HP, which could be easily made with the Duc Perfromance ECU and an exhaust and filter on a 848 though, dry cutch.. love it or hate it situation here (i personally hate it).. it took me no time from being a noob to bikes to pulling wheelies on my 696, i can ride the bike like i ride a bicycle. im afraid the 848 will be the same and ill get a sudden power thurst in a couple of months.. as for what makes me want the 848.. well, they have it available in red, the 848 is a great handling bike with alot of upgrades available (the aftermarket for the 848/1098 is huge btw) instead of paying 4000$ for the Ohlins on the 1098S, i can get them for 2300$ front and back but that also applies to the 1098, the slipper clutch is what really makes me think about the 848.. yes its not "Ducati" but.. im considering my own riding style here, i rely on engine breaking alot and if it wasent for the slipper clutch on my 696 i would have lowsided for sure.. that, or a faceplant haha.. tough call, i know most of you would be saying your stupid for even thinking about it.. but, remember one is a 2007 in yellow.. the other is a 2009 in red.. both brand new, warranty starts the day i recieve the bike.. 2 years, unlimited mileage. the riding position on both is the same since theyre almost identical bikes.. im a small guy/light weight.. never had a problem riding aggressive position bikes, i dont get the so called wrist or back pain.. and riding doesnt cause me any fatigue. i keep reading on the ducati.ms forum and apprently there are a million 848 vs. 1098 thread, i think it goes down to what suites my driving style. i want a supersport and thats for sure.. i want another ducati and thats for sure.. but, im torn between the two. i also have an offer for a used 848 for my bike + cash.. very tough call!!

yeah yellow isn't my fave color on the bike either..

2yrs diff in age isn't insignificant either..

i dunno about the 848 being faster tho.. MCN compared the 999 vs 1098 and althought the 1098 was a couple secs faster..
it is alot harder to driver fast and more exhausting and excertive and skill taking...

if u were into tracking and racing i'd say go for it... but u do alot more cruising and city riding (like me)

I say u keep the 696 for the rest of the season, and push the bike to the limits..

just cuz ur "used" to the power, doesn't mean u've outgrown the bike...

try the S4R see how u like it.. or the SF even..

u used to be intimidated by it.. maybe now u wont be anymore

The S4R is a great bike.. but i promised myself my next bike will be a supersport!

as for the Streetfighter.. i cant keep my ass on that thing for 3 minutes, i think the 848/1098 are comfier bikes, it feels like im sitting on a log of wood!

  14. ^^how is Super Sport supposed to be more comfy than a street bike? I say stick to the 696, take your time learning how to ride properly and then upgrade to a more powerful bike. if you want more power the 848 is not going to much an upgrade from your 696, and I like the 696 looks better than the 848.

    and FYI, the 696 is a 80HP bike.. the 848 is 134, and the 1098 155

ED, trust me when i say.. the SF isnt a very comfy bike!! if uve ever had ur ass on the seat.. feet on the pegs, ull understand.

yes, the positioning is upright and neutral.. ok, good ergo.. but its not comfy, i feel better positioned on the 848/1098.. afterall.. dukes are made for small italians! if ur a big guy, ull hate the bike!

as for the 696.. i love the bike to bits.. but, ive outgrown it.. ive reached to the point where my shoe is starting touch the ground on some cruves.

you should be scraping your foot pig feelers not your running shoes, you should have your toe tips on the foot pigs when your turning to leverage your wight properly. and if you think you've outgrow the bike in a couple thousand klicks then more power to you.

don't forget torque curves as well

s2000 makes the same hp as say an SR20 with bolt ons... but the SR will have way better mid range..

Besides. If it was hp u were after u would be buying a Japanese bike. The thumping twins are made for torque output u know that

ive reached to the point where my shoe is starting touch the ground on some cruves.
than that means ur hanging ur feet on the pegs wrong... ur not using the balls or ur feet... I used to make the same mistake...

    now my pegs scrape instead

i dont think a couple of centimeters between my feet and the foot peg is a whole lot of angle.. nothing to determine weather i should keep the bike or not. at the end of the day, they always say.. the 696 is your first duke. and , it all comes down to personal preference.
